anti cavitation coolant additive
I changed my water pump yesterday and my cousin told me that 7.3s need the additive. Can I get it at AutoZone or orileys? When I asked them on the phone they have no clue what im talking about ( imagine that) Napa is closed on Sundays and my cousin said he didn't know if it would hurt to drive my truck home without the additive

The stuff you need is SCA. Supplimental coolant additive... fleetguard makes some that is really good. Also you can get some from john deere. You can drive for awhile without additive but I wouldent for very long. It eats away at your cylinder linings and causes cracks without it

Ford diesel 7.3 power stroke-you should use distilled water in it.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- The transmission (E40D)shifts hard in all gears. If I disconnect the battery for 30 sec. it works ok tell it goes into passing gear.1997 Ford 7.3 diesel super duty.4:w2: |
Does not matter if u use distilled water or not.... the cavitation is from "bubble collapse" which doesnt care what kind of water it is..... the SCA lines the cylinders with a coating so that during the exhaust stroke the bubbles dont collapse against the cylinder wall causing it to erode.

Advance auto carries "fleet charge" coolant with SCA already added. Go buy that and forget about it for a year. After a year, get some test strips and check the SCA level. If is bad, get some napa kool additive and adjust accordingly.

Nalcool.. then it became pencool. I run fleetguard compleat in mine, You can get SCA additive from most diesel service centers.
