Hard start

My 95 is becoming a pain in the ass to start. If the weather is under 40 degrees it takes a few minutes to get it started if its not plugged in but recently its been becoming harder and harder to start. I just tried to start it after its been plugged in for almost 10 hours i cycled the glow plugs to many times to count for 20 minutes and i got two or three chugs but could't get it to start. Any ideas? Any way to test for what it is? I'm still pretty new to powerstrokes, so i'm not entierly sure what all to check and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tested your batteries or starter? Sounds like that is where your problem is going to lie...

If you have never touched glow plugs or glow plug relay, I would suggest spending the 150 bucks and replace those too... I always do this when I buy a powerstroke...

The batteries are fairly new and it has started fine until it started getting cold. I guess glowplugs probably wouldn't be a terrible idea after 165000 miles haha

It still isn't going to hurt to test the batts and the starter...

Also, when you say cycle the glowplugs for 20 times. Are you just meaning that you cycle the key again when the WTS light goes off? They are timed to stay on up to 1 1/2 minutes even if the light is off. Just turn the key and wait. You will know when they shut off when the ammeter jumps up a bit...

Yeah thats what I meant, I didn't know that they stayed on that long, like I said I'm new to the 7.3 thanks though!

check the glow plug relay. its the relay above the valley of the engine passenger side. looks just like your external starter solenoid on the fenderwall passenger side. take a test light, one side should be hot all the time. the other side should get hot when you turn the key on. if not, relay bad. if thats the case, make sure you get one from ford. i've tried advanc, napa, you name it, all junk!
