2011 F450 Fuel Mileage

I have 12.5K on my truck. My mileage empty was been 15-16 @70 mph. With the camper only, 11.0 to 12.5 @70 depending on wind resistance. Adding a 20' car trailer, 7500 gvw, the mileage @70 is 7.5 to 10.5 with wind also being a factor. Wonder what you other guys are getting?

Lange503 12-01-2010 03:36 PM

empty my dad is getting 17.5-19.3 and with a gooseneck trailer and an 2009 ccsb powerstroke behind he was getting 13ish

Cicc 12-01-2010 11:14 PM

That's similar to what my '98 E350 is still getting with a stock 7.3 PS with 414K. New isn't always neccessarily better.:humm:

bobcat67 12-01-2010 11:52 PM

apples to oranges my friend, you're talking an engine with almost 2x the power output from the factory, gobs of emissions equipment, and if it's a 450 undoubtedly higher/lower gear ratio however you wanna look at it, your e350 probably has 3.73's wheras the 450 probably has 4.88's which is gonna put the rpm higher which is also going to burn more fuel

4:11s in the 2011 450 rear ends this year to improve mileage. I just did 500 miles yesterday on a trip avg 17.2 (no real load). I can't complain. Your right apples to oranges. Ford dealer was touting much better loaded mileage with the 6.7 than the 6.4. It is better but not big as they initially claimed. I am happy with the truck, plenty of power and the new turbo gives it big acceleration.

bobcat67 12-02-2010 10:19 AM

yeah I don't ever believe what a dealer says when it comes to mileage claims, was test driving a 6.0 for a friend and the salesman from the ford dealership reset the average mpg calculator on the interstate going 65 and tried telling me once it started leveling out that i can expect to get about 22.5 mpg on the interstate and i just turned and laughed at him

Lange503 12-02-2010 01:30 PM

i'm trying to talk him into making all that emission B.S. go M.I.A. but he wont just yet

bobcat67 12-02-2010 10:35 PM

they already don't do half bad from the factory as far as mileage is concerned, but it'd be nice to see what they do without it

Lange503 12-05-2010 04:36 PM

yeah, i'm sure it'd atleast help out a little bit, maybe not as much as the 6.4 ha but atleast a little

Mdub707 12-13-2010 09:53 AM

The 6.4 gets awful mileage with the DPF equipment on, we know this. Take it off and guys are getting between 17 and 25mpg (obviously unloaded and LOW cruising speeds, like ~50mph).

The 6.7 gets pretty good mileage from the factory thanks to the urea injection. IF you want to get rid of the emissions stuff H&S already has programmers out and there are tunes to shut off emissions stuff. I know Rudy is selling them, as well as a few others.

The mileage seems pretty good factory on the 6.7's though, far better than the 6.4's and with more power to boot!

MotorTrend or some magazine did an article that said with a 1000lb load in the bed a 6.7 was getting 21mpg at 70mph.

riddick01 03-21-2011 09:36 AM

never believe anything anyone major tells you. my uncles 6.4 was gunna get 18-22 from the factory (or so the dealer and other major ppl told him) i came on here said whats it gunna get and told him...he didnt believe me and now hes stuck fillin that thing up all the time. so if you wanna here the real numbers before you buy a truck a place like this is where ya wanna be

Lange503 03-21-2011 06:17 PM

suprisingly enough my mom's 2010 will get about 17-19 on the highway, its bone stock other then some look better mods, wheels, tires, chrom, etc... although my big brothers only got about 13 regardless of where and how it was driven, did a DPF delete and got about 18ish on average, our 6.7s are getting 19 stock, did a AFE stage 2 intake on my brothers we'll see if that hurts or helps it any

marcomjl 04-07-2011 09:00 PM

mileages sound good to me.

bowietrucking 10-25-2011 03:51 PM

my buddy thats hauls a 40' g/n which weights around 10k empty, told me he averages 10.5 mpg out of his 450. not to bad. my 7.3 hauling the same stuff, gets around 11 average but i'm sure he has lots of power to boot!

Dansfordtrk 11-01-2012 10:20 AM

My 2012 F-550 6.7 is getting 9.5 mpg but it has an autocrane mechanics service body, air compressor, crane, welder and alot of tools. Truck is 18500 lbs with nothing in the bed and is still a rocketship. It gets better mpg than our 6.0s and 6.4s with the same body

swiftkiller 12-14-2012 08:51 PM

The day I drove away from the dealer I was getting 21.7 empty after 500 miles I was getting 15.7 pulling my camper. Pulling out of a wal-mart the engine stumbled a little and ever since my mileage is getting worse. 14.3 empty I've had it to 2 dealers they can't the problem

joshs1 04-25-2013 10:51 PM

Friend of mine gets around 9-10 loaded and around 12-13 dry.

gunman41mag 04-26-2013 08:20 PM

My 2008 F-250 6.4 was giving me 11 to 12 mpg after egr/dpf/cat deletes i'm only getting 15 to 16 mpg:argh:

Stumblefoot 09-14-2013 08:29 PM

Im getting about 15MPG empty, only have just over 7,000 miles, havent done any "heavy" towing yet, but dragging a few empty GN trailers averaged around 11-12MPG

Stumblefoot 05-14-2015 09:18 PM

The mileage really depends on the gears, I have a 2012 F450 DRW with 4.88 gears, and 17inch wheels 31 inches tall...I put on some 19.5s @ 33 inches tall, made quite a difference in fuel mileage. I normally run between 65 and 70 with some pretty heavy loads, my weekly MPG runs around 10-11 don't go by whats on the dash.
