Locking hubs ?

Does locking them help any? Do the front wheels not both turn when in 4wd high? Is it kinda like my Yamaha grizzly, the first 4wd button is really 3wd then u Push the other button to lock it in 4wd? Locking the hubs is the true 4wd?

What setup do you have? Auto-locked or unlocked-locked?

Auto mode is unlocked "free wheeling/ hub not connected to the shaft (better fuel mialage and less wear and tear)" but when you click the 4x4 button vacuum pulls the hub together to lock.

Locked mode is if the hub malfunctions because of lack of auto working, you can manually lock it to still have 4x4. Kinda a double redundant system.

To achieve what your Grizzly has (I have one as well) youd have to install a locker of some sorts in the pumkin to get true 4x4

I was reading in a forum about the Bully Dog tuners that someone found out that their F250 Superduty had locking hubs and that it was causing their MPG to be low. I have never owned one of these trucks before and can't find anything in the book but was wondering if anyone knew if all these trucks have them or not. My MPG is only at around 12 right now and I thought it should be a little higher, especially with the B.D. tuner. There is a pic of her in my alblum. Any advice or help is appreciated. :raygun:

If youe driving around with the hubs locked in yes it will hurt the milage some. What hubs do you have?

I went out and saw that there is a lock and auto on the front and they were in the lock position, I moved them both to the auto position. I will see if that helps my MPG. It was feeling like it was dragging when I have been driving it in the past, hopefully this will help that too.

Yep in auto you will get the best mpg. Be sure to move them back and forth once in awhile to keep them from seizing up.

Sure will, thanks much. Have a good week.

If I have the hubs on my F250SD in auto do I need to get out and switch them to lock before I use the 4x4?

We had snow and I had a hard time getting up a hill and I put it in 4x4 with the hubs in auto and I still had problems so I got out and put them in lock and then no problems.

I thought "auto" would still switch to 4x4 or do I have a problem?

vacuum lines going to the hubs need to be checked... Auto mode is engaged by vacumm so you dont have to get out to lock them in.
