Stuck EGR Valve Removal
 

Now usually pulling an Egr valve is no big deal. On the 6.4l they use no sealing O-rings and rely on precision fit to seal it up. This can lead to problems pulling the Egr out for either cleaning or replacement where it seems to be stuck in the housing forever. Even the Ford removal tool they supplied us breaks in half over the pressure. With my method you can save that housing. Check it out it may help someday.

I have a 2008 F350 with a 6.4 built in 07/07. It's a Tool Truck configuration, and it has been maintained very diligently with 5000 mile oil changes, 10,000 mile fuel filter changes, and 20,000 mile air filter changes.

The truck is currently has 115000 miles and for the past month it's been throwing a P401 code, no matter how many times I erase it.

So I've been studying up on the egr valve removal process, and stumbled upon this site and your video :jump:

From what I come to read/understand, 9 out of 10 guys have to remove that egr bent pipe housing to remove their egr valve. I'm assuming the worst; that I'll be one of those 9 guys :dang:

I'm preparing to buy all the parts off of Rock Auto.Com and can get the updated Motorcraft EGR Valve. At the 4:30 mark in your video, you mention getting a new Throttle Body Gasket VICTOR REINZ Part # G31817.

Question: What are the names/part numbers of the other gaskets that hook up to the housing that I'll need if/when I remove the entire ER housing to get the egr valve off?

Last question: Do you know if the updated Motorcraft EGR valve Part # CX2366 8C34-9D475-BB comes with a new "o" ring gasket or???

The egr valve does not come with the new gasket. The throttle body gasket and the other gasket that is recessed in the housing I took off to clean and remove egr valve they are the exact same part so you just need 2 of them. There is a metal egr cooler gasket but it is reusable no problems.

I'm new on here and I'm looking for a simple yes or no answer as to whether or not i can re-use the original EGR valve once it's been removed and cleaned ?

From what I've read (and experienced firsthand), if your EGR Valve is original, it will be hopelessly stuck in the "pipe elbow" that it is mounted in, as 99% of the original EGR valves are.

In my case, after a LOT of online research, I decided that the easiest and most time efficient method was to remove the EGR and the "pipe elbow" as a complete unit, rather than trying to remove the EGR valve in the tight confines of the engine compartment.

When the pipe elbow was removed, I cinched it down in a wood jawed vise, and liberally dosed the EGR valve from all sides and angles with multiple varieties of penetrating oil.

After a few hours soaking, I utilized an air chisel, and attempted to remove the EGR valve, starting at the thickest part of the valves flange. The valve self destructed all along the flange area, and did not move a milimeter from the pipe elbow...

I brought the pipe elbow asssembly down to Ford (for the Core credit) and the guy at the parts counter said he hasn't seen 1 original EGR valve able to be removed in the over 2,000 pipe elbow/EGR valve assemblies he sold over the past 6 years...

In closing, make sure to use a Nickle base anti-seize paste around the circumference of the EGR valve that is seated within your new pipe elbow!!! Amazon sells it at a very reasonable price.

I agree before we ever try to remove the egr valve we remove it with the crossover housing and work it out on the bench.
