what should the voltage be??

dumb question by me, but, what should the stock alternator be putting out?? I would think 14-14.2 or so. Mine is at 13.4 ad 13.2 with lights and blower on, a little on the low side I think.

I think it's 14.4+ when charging. Don't quote me on it but I believe so.

13.4 is charging

Yeah that sounds about right Bob with all the stuff on and running. When did you check it? Right after start up, or after it had been running a while? Sure the glow plugs were off?

bobfbigman 07-30-2012 07:27 PM

It hasn't been running quite right, I have been doing some maintnace things like new standpipes, flex lines, pump to branch tube connector, put my new IPR on instead of letting it sit on shelf, 2 new injectors finally. It starts instantly and runs great cold but when it heats up kind of sounds like it has a HPoil leak but it doesn't. The other day I thought I saw a red glow on dash at a traffic lite and it went away before i moved my right arm to see it and now today I was watching for it and sure enough the batt lite comes on every now and then at Idle, I can feel a slight nock on the alternator like the bearing might be going, new 240 amp one is on it's way, just hope it holds out till trursday.:c:

It's amazing how poor these things can run/drive with bad batteries and/or alternator.

Talk about cutting it close, alternator finally gave out yesterday as the batt lite was staying on full time. New 240 amp alternator showed up via UPS at 10 this morning and it puts out 14.4 at idle. I am just glad it gave me a little warning first so I didn't have to resort to a stock unit from the parts store.
