Let us know what you find in the turbo, definately an odd case of no start, glad I could help bouncing ideas around.

Hows your oil? I know most of us change our oil religiously and im sure you do too, but working on some JDs that are running a blend of vegi and #2 sometimes the exhaust gases carry enough 'rough' oil to just bind the turbo enough to not allow it to turn, but a simple 'fingers touch' will break it loose just enough to activate. The reason I say this is because ether would have a loosening effect on the oil, just enough to get going.

But now as i think about it, Im not expert on VGTs, so I may be off or completely wrong

Always 375* and under... never above 400* no matter what. EGT's are only 1/2 the story though, EGT's can be low and oil temp through the roof still. I did just tow my camper with my gogo race file loaded up, but I let the truck idle for about 15 minutes while I was in registering for the campsite, then crawled over to the campsite and let it go another 5 min or so and shut it off. The first time this happened I wasn't even towing... just completely random. This turbo has been through hell though and honestly I never expected it to last this long. It only runs 22-24psi stock, on my truck it's maxed the 35psi gauge a few times and has basically been running hot tunes for the last 80k miles.

Yeah I'm still trying to understand why it was "stuck".... makes no sense. I'll get pics though when I pull it apart for sure.

Just changed my oil last week, Rotella T6 5w-40 and a motorcraft oil filter. I was running Valvoline premium blue 15w-40 non synthetic and it was the worst oil I've run to date. I did have rev-x in with that oil too. No rev-x yet with the new synthetic.

The first time it happened, ether got it fired, this time not even ether would do the trick. I haven't run veggie in probably 20k miles right now though... been pump diesel since then and nothing else. I'm VERY particular when it comes to my fuel systems. I really don't have an answer as to why it was stuck, other than maybe it's just on it's way out after 80k of abuse on it!? I will know soon enough.

If I find a smoking deal on an 03 turbo I'll probably jump on that, or I'm thinking the stage 1 or the hybrid from MTW MAD Turbo Werks - Product Main Page :c:

Shell Rotella Synthetic is the best, and ive heard that Motorcraft is supposed to be purpose formulated for the psd. I reccomend Rotella in everything, in the bigger JDs we run it the heaviest we can

If its your oil, when you pull the turbo, youll find really fine fine gritty stuff, almost like graphite. The fuel might do that too, depending on its quality

read through most of the post, and have worked on quite a few 6.0's... the unison ring is usually what holds the turbo up (makes it sticky)... it is the ring that is controlled by oil pressure that adjusts the turbine wheel.. I would make a video for you, but there are several on utube that do a good job of it
