Additional 1-2" lift added to a 6.5" lift
 

Hey guys, wanted to get ideas from y'all on how to add 1-2" to my procomp 6.5" lift. My truck is a 2003 crew cab long bed 6.0 powerstroke on 37's. The tires rub a little if the front end gets tweaked too much in off road situations, other wise no rub at all during normal driving situations... Im currently ordering Fox res. shocks all around and dual fox steering stabilizers.... wanted to know if anyone has run MKM customs mini leaf packs on aftermarket front lift springs? They are advertised as a leveling kit for stock sprung superduties. Do they work or do they only work with stock springs? I called MKM and got a vague answer of maybe, but not sure if they will work... Add a leaf springs will make the ride worse correct? Longer shackles? Not sure what to do, do not want to go the whole new 8" lift route, and i'm sure my wife would agree.... Just need a little more height! I'd appreciated some feedback cause i'm feeling stuck on what to do. Thanks

well if you just want a little more just add a spacer in the front above the coil. they are cheap and give you a little more. also if you have blocks in the back just add another 2 inch block and get longer u bolts if you have to

thanks for the quick reply. The truck is leaf sprung, not coiled in the front. Thats why i was asking about the mini spring pack in the front from MKM. For sure with the rear, I plan on switching the block for one a little larger perhaps from Top Gun Customs. Just need 1-2" and i will be set!

What's the smallest amount of lift you can run on these trucks to fit 35's? I have an 03 with all around leafs. I've heard of people running with only 3'' of lift but not sure how much they rub with that little amount.

I had a 2.5 inch leveling kit on mine from top gun and it cleared 35's no problem

Top Gun would surely be able to help you out. Another good guy to talk to is CaryT from the powerstroke forums, he knows superduty suspension in and out.

I answered this for you somewhere else I feel like.... I run 2.5 in spacers up front and factory 350 blocks in rear, fits 35x12.5x17's on stock 17x7.5's with ease. Only rub I get is full lock left hand turns, the tire will rub the inside of the fenderwell in the back. I can probably pull it back and zip tie it to prevent it, but it doesn't bother me enough. Different wheels with a different offset/backspace would probably fix it too, or even an adjustable trac-bar to recenter the axle under the truck as well.

Same here, just wondering if it's any different since he's on a leaf spring truck and we're on coils up front... might get some rubbage on the leafs for him, where we don't have to worry about that.

Where is it rubbing> Leaf springs or front bumper?

Leaf springs: my 365-65 16s (14.5x34.5) Toyos on 16x10s rubbed them, I went to 315s and it was solved.

Front bumper: I put a small spacer (about 1.5") between frame and bumper mount to push bumper out.

The best way to add 1-2" to a 6.5" FRONT spring lift is to buy 8 inch springs. Seriously, after you get done stacking in more leafs to get the lift (at 3/8" thick you'd need 3~4 for 1.5 and 5~6 for two inches), you may as well toss your shocks cuz it's going to be a STIFF RIDE! As for the rear, an add-a-leaf or taller block would work.

Finally, I have 6.5 Pro-Comp springs with last 2 leafs and 3/8" spacer removed, thus they should yeild about 5" of lift. Anyway, with that, Eagle Alloy 16x10s and 315s, I can contact the trailing edge of my wheel opening. Pretty much, if I stuff it enough, it will be self correcting. :bat:

Oh yeah! Wider wheels (IMO) provide better tread wear, but REQUIRE more lift because they push the tires out. I wouldn't even try a 35 on a 2.5~3" leveling kit with my wheels. 16x8s would work, but I don't like 8s on 315s. Again PERSONAL OPINION about wheels and tires.

Thanks for the replies guys! Im a little confused by some of the posts and am not sure if my post was clear.... I already have a pro comp 6.5" lift on the truck, it is leaf sprung front and rear. Im running 37" Toyo mudders on twenty inch Kmc monsters. If i hit a good hole or flex her out a little off road, the tire grabs the bottom of the fender near the door a little. The tires dont contact the bumper or the springs at all. MKM sells a mini spring pack for this truck to level the stock suspension. I'm just wondering if this pack will work with the aftermarket springs i have with this lift? The MKM employee i talked too wasn't sure. (Not much help when u don't know your own product). I love the idea of switching to 8" springs, but I just dropped a boat load of cash for fox res. shocks all the way around and fox dual steering stabilizers with the top gun customz bracket....Need to take a spending money break to appease my wife, which i'm sure a lot of you can relate to. Karl, not sure if u have seen MKMs spring pack that i'm talking about, but the pack is about as long as a lift block. It is not a long set of springs. i think because of this, it would not affect the ride like add a leafs would.

spring packs are glorified blocks for the front, the way they get away with it is that the pin goes through the mini pack and the long pack.
