Squirrel ate my wires
This is crazy. Left headlight didn't work, fuses and bulbs good, had to be wiring or relay. No one, including Ford could give me a wiring schematic or tell me where the headlight relay was located. Started opening the wiring harness and found a squirrel had bit through two wires to the light socket. Spliced the wires, works now.
Typical of Ford, had to remove more parts to put it back together. Found a nest of napkins and paper towels behind the radiator reserve tank back under the turbo. The sucker ate another wire going to a connector pluged into a sensor (?) at the rear of the engine block.
My question: What is this sensor (?) at the rear of the block, left side, right behind the turbo?

Hard to tell, I'm sure Bob will know, but my guess is ICP sensor.
When Ford was running their wiring harness' I doubt they were accounting for squirrels chewing through things when they thought about repair process'. LOL.

Thanks Mike, but the ICP sensor is on the right side of the engine near the front up near the EGR.

Ok so you've got a late 05 engine in there, not terribly common in the X's.
There is the IPR back there too... it's about the only other thing I can think of that's back there.
Why do you think you need a specialist? To figure out this thing, or for something else? If that's chewed through, and it's indeed the IPR, you would have some serious issues with it running, if it ran at all.

You were right Mike. I went to Ford, unless I pulled the sensor to get a P/N they had no idea. They wanted to sell me the whole harness, OMG!!!
Perkins Diesel, been in the same spot in Mesa for over 30 years confirmed your analysis. On the early 03 6.0 engines, the ICP sensor is in the left rear of the engine. All the shop drawings on the web show it located up front on the right.
Came to the conclussion that I'll just have to patch the wires.

Perkins Diesel, been in the same spot in Mesa for over 30 years confirmed your analysis. On the early 03 6.0 engines, the ICP sensor is in the left rear of the engine. All the shop drawings on the web show it located up front on the right.

I mis-spoke earlier, I mean late 04. I don't believe any of the X's got any of the newer 05+ motors, even the 05 model years. The 03/04 motors have the ICP back behind the turbo, 04.5+ have it in the passenger valve cover.
At least it's a relatively inexpensive fix!

If you had to remove a foil wrap from around the sensor then it is the IPR, if it wasn't wrapped then it is the ICP sensor, the ICP sensor is all the way at the back and the IPR is not qite all the way in the back and screws into the top of the HPOP cover. The main reason you didn't have driving issues iis the little varmit only ate the insulation and didn't chew the actual wire through, now if it shorted together then it would have shut you down. maybe some mothballs under the hood would work, this really pretty common, my aunt had a minivan totaled by a squirl.
Hi Guys, Well connected the wires and put it all back together again. Connected both batteries and gave it a try. Won't start, the starter seems to be locked out.I seem to remember that if you disconnect both batteries there is some sequence to initate or to disable the security lock out. Does any one have an answer?
The other possibility is that the wires I connected to the IRP or ICP senssor are shorted. Trying to get the plug into the sensor back in that hole was a real PITA. I hope I didn't screw that up.
I think "Bobfbigman" is right, it was the IRP sensor, the one in the front. There are another set of wires going back further to another sensor likely the ICP he suggested before. If the IRP sensor is shorted, will that keep it from starting?
Any one got a suggestion for a good 2003 6.0D International maintenance manual out there?

I don't know about any lock out code, as long as you insulated each wire individually you should be fine, after each is wrapped with tape or heat schrink then it is fine to wrap them together. Is the truck cranking and not firing or not cranking at all??
