difference between powermax turbo and stock

What is the difference from my stock turbo I have on my 2004 6.0 and the powermax turbo?

is there any way i can do these upgrades to my stock turbo or is that not possible? Might be a stupid question just curious

How does the Powermax compare to the Batmo-wheel? For the price, a Batmo-wheel seems to be the way to go. But my knowledge of turbos is about the same as my knowledge of quantum physics.

Above all else, does the Powermax scream like an 03 turbo? I'm not giving up that scream for love or money.

Powermax does scream like an 03 turbo

No. The only upgrade you can really do to a stocker is put the "batmowheel" on. Supposedly you will drop EGT's and pick up a little power. The wheel alone is $400. A new powermax is about $1150 shipped. Some a little more, some a little less. I'm doing research right now on a different turbo setup that is in the works right now. There is a guy taking a stock 6.0 turbo and combining them with a stock duramax turbo. It's using the hot side of the powerstroke setup and the compressor wheel and front housing from an LLY I believe. I'll post more info as it becomes available in a separate thread. Sounds interesting though. I will say, even if it does work it will probably still be quite a bit more $ than the p-max. The powermax will require some tuning changes if you do go that route, just keep that in mind. An SCT will be needed if you don't already have one.

Some say the powermax actually screams louder than the 03. No worries there. I'd imagine a powermax would out-do the batmowheel stock charger. You can also get batmowheels for the p-max. There are also a few companies modding the p-maxes now. RCD is turning them into 68mm chargers, and I believe Elite has a modded p-max now that is like 66mm or so. Some interesting things coming out for the 6.0 world, which is good to see.

You dont have to imagine, a batmo'd stocker is not going to flow the same or close to a powermax, powermax is bigger period. Mdub im also watching Mad's write ups on the durastroke turbos but the only one I would want is the big charger hes working on. I dont see much of a point to the smaller lly stock ones, IMO I would rather go with the proven powermax and keep the stocker as a backup

The powermax really isn't that big of a step up from the stocker, despite the measurements. Will it flow a little more? Yes. How much more? Well the map is right there... it's not a "huge" step up by any means, but is a good turbo for the guys with stock sticks and hot tuning up to a 155, maybe a 175. I think 190's are too much for a p-max, and you'd have to pull fuel, so what's the point?

coletrain, what are you running for injectors? The small durastroke charger should outflow the powermax from what I'm seeing... but time will tell. Those larger chargers are certainly interesting for the guys with bigger sticks.

All the claims out there say the PM "runs out of air" up top. I doubt a smaller DM will outflow the PM up top. Besides everyone is forgetting the intake manifold and cam shaft. Both parts are BIG players to performance.

I for one can tell you on an OEM manifold the PM does have a bit more lag then the stocker. Drop in a Stage 1 manifold and there is NO DOUBT what is preventing airflow on the 6.0L. It's an undeniable difference in how much better the turbo spools and the motor responds when using the GOGO.

Brainfart here maybe, but DM??? I don't see the cam as a limiting factor really either, though it wouldn't hurt. I'm actually looking into colt cams right now for when I tear into mine in the next few weeks here. Supposed to make the drivability much easier, but Ellerton was running the stock cam for quite some time. Tried an Elite cam, couldn't get squat to spool, took it out and went back to stock last I knew. Stock cam @ 1200rwhp or whatever it is says a lot. The intake manifold is a HUGE restriction though, you got that right! There is also another player on the market with intake manifolds now. I'm seeing guys selling their GoGo units for the new Apex manifolds from Absolute Performance. Interested to see how those do. I am probably going to try and make my own though, got a spare intake manifold laying here and a bunch of machinist friends...:c:
