Doing EGR delete

We are doing an EGR delete on my buddy's 03 f250 6.0L and is there a way to get rid of the code the truck will throw once the EGR is gone, because I know the Check engine light will just stay on. He wants to get an on the fly tune and get that check engine light to stay off. Any ideas? :humm:

an SCT will get rid of the code and give you an awesome tune for the truck as well. On the fly with fords isnt a good idea. Also if he doesnt get a programmer right away he can try to just plug in the egr and let it sit there and the code will possibly not show up.

It's extremely rare for an 03 or early 04 to even throw a CEL for the EGR... but an SCT with custom tunes is the only thing that will get rid of it. On the fly tuning is terrible for a 6.0.

If you're just "guessing" that the light will be on, you're most likely wrong. Never seen an 03 throw the light for an EGR delete.:c:

we are just guessing right now, thank you for the advice, why is on the fly so bad for the 6.0L?

The transmission doesn't like the shift on the fly.

^^^ this. I would suggest unplugging the egr right now and see if you get a code before you worry about codes.

i just noticed my truck is sipping coolant havent verified that its a cracked egr cooler but chances are it most likely is... i want to delete but i live in california where emission laws are really strict. however its only visual and i came across a thing called a "sneeky pipe" it basically looks like your egr cooler is still there but everything is just plugged up thus deleting the egr with out actually removing it. problem is i only can find it for the 05+ i cant find it for the 03... has any one seen this for the 03? on top of that the smog shops in my area romp on it to see if it smokes. will this make it dump smoke or will i be fine?

You will get less smoke because you will have more clean air to burn instead of exhaust, the 05 kit will work, they are the same, they just use freeze plugs to close up the ends, those kits from ebay are nice because they have every part you need and the directions are great, some people might tell you to piece it together yourself but keep in mind there are a couple of parts that you can't just buy, you could make them but it will take time. for $149 or whatever they are charging now it is worth it, it will be about a 6 or 8 hour job depending on how much time you spend cleaning the inside of the intake, get plenty of carb cleaner and some long handled pipe cleaners for the intake ports.

My 7/03 has the light on for the egr delete...:argh:

you can do the delete and just leave the valve in there hooked up then, it is blocked off from the bottom so it doesn't matter what it does.
