$9,000.00 dealer estimate

I have a 2004 excursion powerstroke. I have been having some cold start issues and white smoke after a acceleration to coast. im running a Banks IQ on economy setting. high flow intake with industrial injection stage 2 turbo and turbo back 4" exhaust. I had the dealer do a diagnostic and the mechanic report was " entire Left bank injectors failed and the right bank of injectors are on verge of going. EGR frozen and needs replaced. remove and clean intake manifold replace all 8 injectors clean turbo repair/replace coolant hose to HP oil cooler that has been leaking, oh yah forgot he also needed to reflash FICM after replacing injecters." wants 9 grand for parts and labor.
When I run a code check on my Banks IQ the only code I get is #6 injector out of balance. EGR inop and crank pos sensor. on occasion ill get a zero read on back preasure value.
I asked if their was any possibility the harness could be bad as i thought that all the wires for these sensors are in the same loom. The service manager said to let the professionals handle the diagnosis. What a TOOL.:argh:
The truck seems to run fine when warm weather but problematic when colder out.. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

WHen all of the sudden all the injectors aren't right then its probably NOT the injectors. Test you FICM first, its on top of the driver's side valve cover, that is what controls the injectors.

thanks bobf...
i grabbed my dig multimeter yesterday and plan on testing SAT.. Do you think the harness might be frayed or am i thinking to much?

Always a possability, look for chaffing too, if it tests OK go ahead and remove it and look at the harness right under the plugs where there is a tight bend, they tend to wear there and anyplace they are pulled tight or pinched under the intake tubing. That dealer is on CRACK, I can buy a nice truck with that kind of money. What area are you in???

you should tell "professionals" at the dealership that he is a MORON. you could replace the WHOLE engine with a brand new one, with everything needed for $9000...

definitely dont let the dealers take this into their hands. i got charged a HUGE price to "replace and reflash computer" which Mdub707 can do for you if you give him a message.

dont let the dealer screw you on this one. the people on here can help you better and much cheaper than any dealer or shop can.

I'm kinda doubting there are any professionals there :w2:

That's a terrible diagnosis. That stuff could be easily fixed for far less. For $9k they didn't even include a headgakset job on that? They're doing almost nothing for that money. You could buy me a plane ticket to fly out there and buy me all the tools I would need to fix it, and the parts, and fly me back home for probably less than 1/2 of what they quoted you, and even that would be stupidly absurd. :argh:

Truck could probably use a coolant flush, a coolant filter, a oil cooler rebuild, and EGR delete, and a FICM rebuild to run like a top again. Depending on mileage, may need an injector or two, but none of that is anything someone with basic tools couldn't do in a weekend...
