Back Again With A new Problem I THINK

:humm:Back Again With another Problem I THINK?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hy Guys I have a wierd one for you. I got into the truck this morning to start it , hit the key and the glow plugs heated up like normal but when I tried tostart the motor it turned over very very slow almost not turning over at all. I turned the key off and tried again and same thing so I thought dead battery but I decided to try one more time and to my supprise it fired right up like nothing was ever wrong. The batteries are only about a year old and the conections look fine from what I can see but plan on cleaning them after work. Any ideas about this one or is this a bigger problem than I am thinking.

Well the last time when it hit, did it still crank slow? Usually slow cranking is weak batteries. Could be the alternator going just not charging the batts, or poor connections.

hi Mdub
I was hoping you would answer back, to answer your question when I hit it the last time it spun over very fast just like normal so I am almost sure it is not a battery issue but maybe a cable conection issue ,what do you think, or maybe even a dead spot on the starter.

Mdub707 03-21-2012 10:54 AM

A dead spot in the starter I would think would just buzz and not even catch, as opposed to turning over slow. I bet it was just cranking off of one battery. Check your battery connections.

I have to say, electrical is NOT my strong point :ouch:

:c:

thanks I was kinda thinking along the same lines with conections, to date I have never had any issues with the starter and is at 180,000 on the clock so I need to knock on some wood now that I said that LOL. Thanks again

What was your last problem? check the ground cable where it attaches to the block also.

usualy the starter will buzz/click if its bad, slow cranking is alternator/batts.

like said, it could be connection issues, but i'd check the alt to be safe

UPDATE I checked the battery connection after work yesterday and they did not look tobad but where a little dirty so I cleaned them real good nd put it back together. It seems to crank better than before and it started right up today so I guess I will just have to wait and see if it does it again, hopefuly not. Thanks for the help

I had a Ford Ranger that did this a few times. Drove it to the parts store, just fine. Went out to leave and it wouldn't even crank over, dead battery... hmm. Had the guy come out with a jump box, hooked it up and it started right up and ran fine. Drove it home. Swapped the battery from my truck to my moms explorer. My truck fired up fine on her battery. However, her explorer fired up fine off of mine too! Cleaned up my battery connections (didn't look bad at all), but my battery back in and it was fine after that for another 30,000 miles or so until I sold it.

I'd clean all of your battery connections and the posts themselves. They make a little tool for doing it.

Thank Mdub already done and so far so good it even cranks faster than before, so this could have been building up over time
