What Eot and ect are you guys seeing?
Wondering how hot is hot here??? Seeing 230's here now
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Nobody runs. Coolant and oil temp gauges?? What is normal for temps? |
I got a 16* split running 186+ ECT and 200+ EOT. I use the CTS for my gauges.
|
My split. Is about 10 so that's OK, but I am seeing 230 on temps?? Is this to hot???
|
Well we don't know anything about your truck, how you drive, if you're towing etc... so hard to say. I see you're in Ontario, I'm sure outside temps can't be very warm yet, but some more info here would help. Sounds toasty to me.

Yes, seems hot to me to? Lol it was 85 here today,
Drive truck daily, those temps I gave were not towing temps, that was in city stop and go. Temp seems high? Coolant level good? Thanks |
those temps are pretty high imo. mine are around 186 to 195 after i did the full flush.
|
What were they before flush??
|
hmm i think eot was 186 and ect when it was really clogged ranged from 210 to 240 depending on how i was driving
|
If your split is only 10*, the whole truck is running hot. I could see if oil was low and coolant was high... A coolant flush probably wouldn't hurt. Still don't really know anything about your truck though... any mods? How many miles? Any work done recently? Has it been running these temps consistently? For how long? Just start yesterday? More info...
What oil are you running? Oil filter? What coolant? Coolant cap good? Ever puked out of it? Does it need replacing? :pca1: |
4in exhaust, edge CS, Airade filter.
Highway temp 190's, today was 83f saw 210 on temps in town. Yesterday was about 85f was seeing 230's?? |
Mike what do you think about the water pump? I heard the fins just fall apart...
|
Is there a way to check??? Would air bubble cause?
|
Quite a few things could be causing it.
Can you hear your fan coming on at all? These waterpumps suck, the plastic fins on the impeller do crack and don't move much coolant after that. Blown headgaskets could also do this, with cylinder pressure constantly aerating the coolant, not letting it do it's job. |
Not using any coolant, level same, no white smoke, runs clean,
Checked fan first it was turning, coolant looks clean? |
It's turning all the time, but doesn't mean the fan clutch is operating correctly. With the way it's turning now you can probably stop it with your hand. When it actually gets going, you can HEAR it. It will be really loud. Either way, the fan would cool it down some, but it shouldn't really be getting that hot in the first place.
|
My guess would be water pump, if the clutch is engaging on the fan? Bc he's not losing coolant and no smoke... So the coolant isn't flowing enought to circulate it...
What have you been checking your temps with? Try checking with a scanner? |
Am getting readings off edge cs, I. Can feel top hose on rad and feel coolantgoing through?
|
If your oil cooler temps are within check as you say, sounds like you're going to have to dig into it and see what's wrong. I would pull the thermostat and just replace it, and inspect the water pump. bulletproofdiesel just released an upgrade for our trucks, billet aluminum impeller water pumps!
|
OK, will look into.
Just bought truck few months ago, did oil change and fuel filters. Talk to dealer today, no codes, but temp was under 200? It was a one owner truck and they did all maitance told me coolant changed 40,000km ago. But was coming due on trans. flush? I will listen for that fan to next time, but I am sure I heard it and itwas loud. |
When the fan clutch fully engages, your truck will sound like a big rig with how loud that fan is. Seriously, it almost overpowers my stacks under moderate acceleration. You will KNOW when that thing is on. FWIW, my fan has ONLY ever come on when my coolant was really low, or one time when towing an enclosed trailer up hill with extreme street on and my foot the floor. Got a few warning beeping things on the dash for that one...:rocking:
|
Well hope I can sort it out! Warmer weather and towing will be a treat!!
|
So what exactly is an "ok" operating temp for ect and eot? From what I understand you want to see a max of 15 degrees difference between the two. Correct, or no? I have 2006 6.0 all stock. Edge insight, 114k miles
|
Correct 15 between, but we never did get what is normal operating temp? Or what is hot? What temp should be shut down? That is still the unknown?? When does damage occur?
|
Well a lot of it depends on information that is lacking... Not every truck will be the same. We all use our trucks differently, in different conditions, some tow, some don't... there's a lot of factors there. Your truck will beep at you and throw warning lights up on the dash once your coolant gets too hot. :c:
