It is possible either way.....easy? probably not. To put the engine in the 79 you have all the electronics to deal with swapping and the axles on the 79 really are not that heavy duty. I would lean toward putting the 79 body on a newer frame. If you have a newer frame would be more about wheel base and getting things to line up and look right, some of the 70s models, I think the camper specials had funny wheelbases. Whichever way you go it comes down to your skill level and bank account.....its only money. It would be sweet though, I love the 79 body.

Something similar has been done...

Yeah I think that was on big tires too, something like a 37" or a 40"... something in that size. That truck moved.

uh axles not as heavy duty....mostly likely dana sixty in both

and it would be possible either way just how much fab you wanna do

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

first you need to decide which way you wanna go. motor and supporting controls or roller over to transfer body. roller over probably match closest wheel base to your 79 and transfer parts changing mount point as needed not sure how steering colume would fit cab and everything else in cab. motor transplant you have to build motor mounts ck clearance on turbo and up pipes against cab mount intercooler radiator route wiring boost tubes and everything else so it would have alot of fab

i saw that 72 at a sled pull in denver a few years ago. that is a sweet rig. except the part where he dropped both of the drive lines in the pull.

Id say it would be a much smoother procedure to find a newer 03 to 07 donar truck with smashed body and drop the nice ol ford body on it!! I would love to do that project someday!!
