Cruise Control
 

My truck is an XL model without cruise control. I read somewhere that I may be able to put factory cruise on my truck by changing out the steering wheel to one with the controls and having ford flash/tune the computer? Anyone know if I can do this? Anyone with a steering wheel for sale?:humm:

Doubtful. The XL trucks had way different wiring than the XLT's. Some of the XLT's had options that others didn't and you could add it to those and get it to work, but typically to add stuff to an XL, it's near impossible. At least I know it's that way with certain things like the lariat gauges or the key fobs, I can't imagine the cruise is much different, but I'm not 100% on that.

When I was looking at trucks several months ago, I looked at a truck nearly identical to mine...same year, same cab/bed config. but it had factory cruise control. This is what made me wonder how hard it would be to add that to my truck.

Was it an XL truck?

From what I've seen XLT and up was completely different wiring harness. So in a lot of cases the XLT's didn't have some of the options the lariats and FX4 trucks and special ones like the Harleys had. However, the wiring was there, so you could add that stuff, but it seems like the wiring just wasn't there for the XL trucks, but I'm just not sure on the cruise control.

It was an XL truck....it had cruise control, mine does not, it had the aux. switches by brake controller, mine does not, and it had a straight bench seat and I have split bench. I do know I really would like to have cruise!:pca1:

If you've seen an actual XL with it, then you can probably add it. I just wasn't sure. The upfitters can be added to any of the trucks since it consists of it's own wire harness separate from any of that stuff.
