Rough Idle
 

Okay, you all helped fix my last problem. THANK YOU! Now I have a new one. I just did the EGR delete, new oil cooler and added a coolant filter. Started it up and now it idles rough, like a cam in a good ol' big block. Driving at cruzin speed it runs so rough it shakes the whole truck like all four tires are out of ballance. Take my foot off the throttle and smoothes out some or push on it and it starts to smooth out, but never completely. Also if I want to get going from a dead stop, I have to push on the pedal a second or two before I even really get moving, then I move forward slowly picking up speed untill the turbo spools up. I've heard of turbo lag, but... And I don't remember if it was that slow before.

This truck sat for the last month and a half with some pretty cold weather. Could the fuel have jelled and be causing this? Bad injector(s)? Sticking turbo? Something not plugged back in right? (Although I have checked all the connections twice now).

Tired of getting crap from my son and friends about owning a Ford and I'm really starting to not like my truck. :scare2: :argh:

Slap the boys up side their heads, all at once, without warning. While it won't fix your truck but it will let them know one thing: Old Guys Rule! :bat:

I am leaning towards something not connected, I forgot to plug in my MAF when I did my EGR delete. Usually, if it runs crappy post maintenance, you missed something. That FICM is a pain in the butt to get to, but check that dude for plug in also.

Have batteries load tested first, then test FICM. If FICM tests out, try some Rev-X. Actually you can add some Rev-X now and it will probably clear most of that, but the batteries and FICM would be a more permanent solution.:c:

Definitely sounds like sticking injectors though.

Was this the first trip with it after the work? I would try to start it and let it get up to operating temp and take it for a short trip then bring it back home and let it idle for about 15 min then shut it off, do this a couple times, this will help warm the fuel up and take that out of the equasion, mahe sure all your injectors are plugged in all the way,when one injector fails completely that is how it feels, like the truck will shake itself apart but when you really step on it it will go.

If you have a laser temp. gun you can aim the temperature gun at the exhaust manifolds to tell wich cylinder is not firing, from the wheel well you can see where each cylinder hits the exhaust manifold, do this when you first start it and look for the cool exhaust portand that will tell you which cylinder it is.

Then you might want to do the FICM test that is in the sticky at top of the 6.0 page.

I checked all the plug-ins. Everything seems tight. Can an injector be loose even with the little chrome clip installed? I did the FICM test before the mods and it was fine. I will test the batteries. It did need a jump after cranking for so long to get it started post mod. I will try Rev-X too, but where do I get it?

I have driven it across town and back, both city and highway. I don't have access to a laser temp gun, but I might try to find one.

Any other suggestions? Hate to pay a mechanic. (No offence to any out there)!:w2:

Don't know whats around you but you can get one at Harbor freight tools, almost any hobby shop that sells RC cars, I think Iv'e even seen them at Pep boys if there is one around, Homedepot and lowes might even carry them, check electrical dept because they are used to find hot breakers or hot/bad/ connections.

Thanks, gotta run to Harbor Freight anyway. Now if someone can tell me where to get Rev-X?

you can find it on ebay you can also google revx site then click on find a dealer to see if anyone around you carrys it, those temp guns are around $40 at HF. and about $120 at the depot.

back in the day before my time and laser thermometers they threw snow on the exhaust manifold to find a dead cylinder. that one aint happinin on a 6L tho :)

Still acting up? I know mine ran like hammered dog :edit: when I first pulled it out of the garage, took the better half of the afternoon of idling and driving around the neighborhood to work all the bugs out.
