Temp Questions

Finally made it home to install some of my new mods. Put the Air dog 2 on the truck pretty easy install. Works like a champ quiet. Put the sct livewire on it and runs great. Started monitoring my temps with the hypertech programmer and my engine oil temp is getting to about 240 F and my coolant temp is staying between 190 and 200. Is this normal or is something not working right? I thought i read that they shouldnt be more than 15 degrees apart. thanks

Found my answer. looks like ill be changing my oil cooler when i get home.anything else yall can think of while im doing this?

:ouch:If you still have a oil cooler ,it sounds like it is pluged up real bad. You are runing the same delta,s that I was lat summer and when I changed it I could not believe how much crap was in it. So change it as soon as possible before it ruptures if it has not all ready. While your in there do a EGR delete also along with a flush and get the gold crap out of there and then put a coolent filter on it, then a lot of your trouble will be over, but fix itbefore the EGR fails or you will have a whole world of trouble and very expensive.

What's with the hypertech? Why do you even have it when you have the livewire?

smoke eater - check out his profile, he's already got a coolant filter. I "thought" he already had an EGR delete too, but if not, that should be on the list to do as well when swapping the oil cooler.

You can get the oil cooler rebuild kit for about $213 from Tousley.com

And here's the P/N for the oil cooler rebuild kit... 3C3Z-6A642-CA (EDIT* Looks like price went up to $231)

Thanks

Being new at this I am saving all the good web addresses - maybe you should post the other one into the Problem With Dealership forum:jump:

Sorry Mdub707 I shoul have looked closer before I opened my mouth, Did not mean to ruffle any feather;s Sorry. I have just been in his position and was lucky.:argh:

ha yea egr is deleted already so thats gone. It hasnt ruptured yet cause no oil in my coolant or anywhere else. ordered a whole new one from mkm customs for around 300. and the hypertech seems to have more available gauges on it than the livewire unless im mixing something on the livewire. im also going to do the flush when i get home. thanks for the quick replies

No worries man! You're not ruffling any feathers, don't worry about it.

What hypertech has more gauges? Any gauge/pod setup that plugs into the OBD port should be able to read the same functions. Livewire you should be able to do fuel pressure and EGT's with the add-on probes for those as well. I don't know anyone using any hypertech product for gauges. A lot of guys are using the Edge CTS for a monitor now too.:c:

jeffa6980 01-06-2012 08:37 AM

well the hypertech one is bigger screen and shows 8 gauges at once. but i want to say the livewire didnt have 1 or 2 of the gauges that the hypertech hyperpac has or i couldnt read all that i wanted to with it. and only reason im using it is because i already have it

The Ford temp deltas do not apply to EGR cooler deleted motors. The TSB that states the delta check is to prevent the EGR cooler from rupturing. I had my oil cooler replaced and still run an average split of 13-16* ECT/EOT. Do I like it...NO...but then no one can explain how or why there is still a temp split. I do not believe the oil cooler became clogged again in less than 2 hours of driving. I use the CTS Insight for gauges and the split was there before the oil cooler replacement. I'm thinking maybe it could be the PCM, or the sensors. I have just about run out of stuff to replace or check to find the culprit. :bat::bat:

Mdub707 01-06-2012 09:35 AM

Do you run those temps just daily driving? It's not uncommon to reach a delta of around 20* when towing heavy too sometimes. Mine is typically between 3-7* difference, original oil cooler.

jeffa6980 01-06-2012 09:46 AM

well i wont be able to change the cooler for another 3 weeks when i get home but when i do ill let yall know the temps are after that. Hopefully it will make a difference. Whats the worst that could happen if it ruptured?

Mdub707 01-06-2012 09:53 AM

oil and coolant mixing, you'd basically have to replace all of the coolant hoses, and some say the radiator should be replaced at that point as well. It's not good.

jeffa6980 01-06-2012 11:29 AM

ah ok glad that hasnt happened. thanks for all the info once again. how important is changing the stc fitting and the oil lines?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Heavy assault did you flush your coolant? and if so how did you do it? I read on another forum if you dont use the restore and restore+ then your temps will still be different.

heres the link to the oil cooler change and still difference in temps
http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/6-0...-temps-21.html

Heres a link on coolant flush how to
http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/6-0...ter-flush.html

Mdub707 01-06-2012 11:50 AM

I've got restore to run through mine. Or is it restore +... I keep confusing them, one gets rid of silicates right? The other gets rid of iron deposits? I plan on using the silicate remover one, whichever one that is. Use that and distilled water, run it for a few hours, drain it, refill with distilled water only, repeat, drain, go to whatever coolant you want. You can also do as many "flushes" with distilled water as you want, keep going til it looks clean. I've heard you can do tap water for that step, just as long as your last step is distilled water. It's cheap enough though...

As for STC fitting... up to you. If you're diving in for something else, just do it, it's like $50 or something. Otherwise you can just wait til it fails. Usually it just wont let you start the truck when it warms up, RARELY does it actually leave anyone stranded, but it is possible. That's a judgement call for you to make.

jeffa6980 01-06-2012 12:16 PM

im pretty sure that restore is for the silicates and restore+ is for the iron im gonna do the whole process when i get home and change my coolant out. that link with the coolant flush is pretty detailed and gives you step by step. tells you to remove the temp sensor to get it done a little faster.
