ok got an 04 6.0 f250 fx4 wont rev over 2000 rpm

Two days ago driving home pulling a small welding tailor.drug it for about 15 miles fine then it started feeling like it was pulling harder and harder then something happened that shut all power off pulled over and went to checking stuff found fuel filter stopped up and loose positive wire on terminal changed both filters dropped fuel tank cleaned it and pickup screen I'm getting pressure to secondary filter but It's hard to crank and seems to have plenty of power till you hit 2000 rpms then bogs down and when idling oil pres drops to nothing till you tap accelerator then it shoots back up anf:argh:d stays then it might drop again any advice please

more info...how does she start? will it start okay after warmed up? any mods to the truck? hit the sticky at the top of the section.

Scotty Scott 01-02-2012 01:45 AM

No hard to start and its got a bully dog triple pup and egr del

Mdub707 01-02-2012 10:54 AM

Put it back to stock and try again. Sounds like a combination of no fuel pressure/low fuel pressure and bad oil pressure. They wont run without oil pressure since the injectors are fired off of high pressure oil.

When's the last time the oil and oil filter were changed and what oil filter used? What fuel filters did you use?

Scotty Scott 01-02-2012 09:37 PM

Did oil change two thousand ago master craft filters and rotello 15-40 think I may have found problem vgt not moving veins in turbo had some boost at takeoff manuall set fins at mid I got most my rpms back but lost take off and I'm still having problem with start up something bleading off the longer it sits off the harder it is to start

Mdub707 01-03-2012 02:16 PM

I would check the fuel pressure on it. You can put a mechanical gauge on one of the ports on the fuel filter housing on top of the motor, do it so it's reading the pressure after the filter, then run it up under the hood and hold it down under one of the wipers, so you can see it while you're driving. Check the pressure, it should be 55ish. Below 45 they say is damaging injectors.

Motorcraft filters you mean?

Your turbo is probably only part of your issues. Sounds like that could use a good cleaning. DTS Articles - Turbocharger Reconditioning

Thanks after driving it today I think its it might be a fuel problem as well I ordered a fuel pump for it and will let you know what psi was this truck is a money pit but it also beats up and down a fence line in west Texas rode hard and put up wet every day

Scotty Scott 01-06-2012 07:20 AM

Ok fuel pressure is 66-69psi still hard to start and no power if you ease into it seems fine you can get it up to 60mph if at any time you get on to it it falls flat on its face I'm tearing into it today hope i figure it out

Mdub707 01-06-2012 07:52 AM

Have you tried scanning it for any codes? Could be quite a few things. Do you have access to a real scanner to watch everything going on while it's running?

66-69psi is high. Does this have the updated fuel spring already?

03Powerstroke 01-06-2012 07:58 AM

maybe the IPR should be checked, to see if any metal shavings are on the screen...hpop

Scotty Scott 01-06-2012 05:34 PM

Yes it has an updated spring now i just pulled the turbo off and gave it a good cleaning the vains were stuck in rust and sut caked on used stuff pads and got everythin freed up and shiney put everything back togather did a computer reset and took abit to get it started and drove it for about 30 min I could tell some improve but when you get on it it still loosed all power like your holding the brake and it at first it was throwing a code P603 AND P611 BUT now nothing im lost maybe yall can help

Mdub707 01-07-2012 06:29 PM

p0611 is a FICM code...

p0603 is a KAM (keep alive memory) have the batteries been replaced or removed recently?

If you haven't touched the batteries lately, get them load tested somewhere, and test your FICM.

Scotty Scott 01-07-2012 09:59 PM

It was the fcim tested it and got.05 with key on now if i can find one

03Powerstroke 01-07-2012 10:34 PM

mdub fixes them:c:

Would nt mind but dont have the time need it by monday

bobfbigman 01-08-2012 12:45 AM

Just keep in mind that if you get a brand new one it will have to be programmed before it will work and I think it would have to be installed for them to program it but not sure about that.

Mdub707 01-08-2012 08:45 AM

New unit from Ford is $900 and needs programming and they'll charge you for that too, typically the bill ends up running like $1100 to get one on your truck.

If I knew about this before the weekend I probably could have had you one by Monday. I'm not sure the dealer will even have one in stock, but if you need it that quick it's probably your only hope.

Scotty Scott 01-08-2012 10:13 AM

Well I didn't find out till noon Saturday myself and every thing was closed or closing but I did find four of them two from Ford dealerships @ 725 and two from salvage yards one for 100 and one for 300 both are from 6.0 powerstrokes years 03-07 f250 and i had read that the new ones needed programmed so the used ones will plug up and be ready to go. And does it matter that my is a fx4 or not I'm going to pick one up monday morning

Any year FICM from any year truck will work... buying one from a junkyard or from the Ford dealer will eventually lead to this exact same problem again down the road, just be prepared for it.:c:

Scotty Scott 01-16-2012 09:11 AM

Replaced ficm reset computer no changes now what about ready to push. Her off in a canyon

Mdub707 01-16-2012 10:25 AM

Well what did you replace it with? Where did you get the replacement from and did you test this one?

Scotty Scott 01-16-2012 11:10 AM

Taylor diesel it was a remanded and pre programed by eng date one year warnty when its finley. Started she idles smoth and its strange i can hook my goose neck up to it loaded and I can break traction if i want to just can't floor it or she will fall flat on her face I got a new code P0237 its ebp low input would you have a part number for that so i can order one

Mdub707 01-16-2012 12:20 PM

Don't order it, clean it. That makes a LOT of sense.

On your drivers side exhaust manifold, you'll see a stainless tube threaded in, follow that tube up, you'll see the EPB sensor attached to it. Remove the tube AND the sensor, clean both very well, and put them back on and try it again. If you know someone with a scanner they could watch the sensor inputs while you're driving down the road to verify this as well.

I'm getting this:

P0237 MAP Turbo/supercharger boost sensor

A circuit low Circuit open, short to ground, faulty sensor

Sounds like a map sensor, not EBP

Look at your intake manifold. On the passenger side there is a vacuum hose that runs into it, make sure that is attached. Make sure the hose itself isn't cracked anywhere (may not be a bad idea to just replace it, vacuum hose is cheap), and then follow that, it should be plugged into the MAP sensor. Check to make sure all connections are tight. Check the wiring make sure there is no chaffing. I've also heard of that nipple on the intake manifold clogging up too and causing similar symptoms. It could be as simple as that hose pulled off that nipple too.

Scotty Scott 01-16-2012 01:05 PM

Ok I will look and let you know.

Scotty Scott 01-19-2012 07:29 PM

Changed map sensor dont have any codes now but still no power when I floor it she blows white smoke bogs down gut less and if I stop the engine and restart it she will. Fire rite up but if i let it set for more than five or ten min its hard to get started i found that my up tube pasenger side flex was broken into today so i pulled it out and made it one solid pipe now but still no changes even after. I did a reset could it be fuel pressure problem guess I need to check it again or the oring on the regulater

Mdub707 01-20-2012 08:30 AM

It really needs a scanner hooked up to it to see what is going on man. I doubt it's a fuel pressure problem though.
