dealership just called...

So I dropped my truck of yesterday because it wouldn't start back up it cranked and cranked and wouldnt start finally after sitting for 20 min I tried again and it started. I had a code for p2990 or p2290 it was something like " ignition pressure too low" but I had that before. The only thing I did prior to this was clean the egr but it started right up right after I did that and I've had that code for a little while now. So the guy at the stealership claims I need 2 batteries a icp and a HPOP what do you think? Think they are blowing smoke or does it sound about right? Also do you think any of those problems could be the reason my truck feels under powered

If the HPOP is truly bad, it wont start at all.

I would personally start with the batteries and the ICP sensor, since you're getting a code for that. Batteries should be load tested, I would assume the dealer has done this and if one is bad, both need replacing.

There is a good chance that the HPOP has a leak, you have the classic signs on an '03. Low on power and trouble restarting after warmed up.

I'm sitting in limbo here. I don't wanna spend 700 on a pump when in my opinion its not broken because its mechanical but at the same time I'm gonna have to remove pretty much the same parts to replace the pump as I am for the icp and frankly it would suck to do all that work and still have the same problem... But I'm not too familur with diesel engines to rule something out. Now being as this pump is mechanical vs electric and Im pretty confident the gear didn't break or something of that nature would getting the hpop update kit fix it if I accompanied it with a through cleaning of the pump? Or is it something internal on the pump that goes out?

Also is there a pictorial write up on how to replace the pump and/or the sensor? I tried looking for one last night to no avail. Just wondering if any one has seen one out there. If not some pointers would be greatly appreciated otherwise a what would be 3-4 hr job will take me 9-10 haha thanks guys I truly appreciate it and merry Xmas

With the '03-'04 HPOP, it's not so much as a mechanical part, but the seals will let loose causing a minor leak. Which causes a lack of power at first then as the leak gets worst, you get a hard/no start when the motor is hot.

The dealer can confirm this by running test.
