what oil to use

Hopefully this gets answered quick because my wife is at walmart and I told her to get me oil

What is a good diesel oil from there and how much should i get on top of that are there any additives i should throw in while im at it?

Thank you guys

Rotella T5. she will find it in silver gallon bottles. 15w40 is what the truck calls for. I run 10w30 in mine cause im in a colder climate. As far as additives...you wont find it at walmart but Rev-x is the only thing id put in with my oil...stay away from Lucas stuff.:c:

get 4 gallons. calls for 15 quarts so leave a little in the last bottle.

dont forget...use only motorcraft or international/Racor brand oil and fuel filters. they are the only ones that fit and work correctly

I just got done reading about rotella t. Isn't it for marine engines or did i missunderstand it? Thank you very much for your prompt reply she still hasn't called me to find out what to get so I'm in luck

The T-5 they sell at walmart isnt marine grade. Its listed as heavy duty. Make sure if she has any question as to which one it is...look on the back label. on the bottom right side of the label there will be a round mark that has the oil weight in the center and the API service mark around the outside of the circle. It should be a API CJ-4/SM mark on the bottle. Any oil you decide to use in this motor needs to meet these specifications.

K she got it she got 10w-30 they didnt have 10-40 however it didn't say diesel anywhere on it? does that sound right? It was by the diesel oil I guess and was in the silver gallon jugs, rotella t5

I only used 15-40, I'm in FLORIDA & it doesn't drop below 0*

The oil she bought better be for a diesel truck:scare2:

She is pretty crazy about always being right so I'm sure she got diesel oil hell she's so crazy about being right its more likely I, some one who knows mechanics of a truck, would accidently get the wrong oil than she would, some one who can't tell you if the engine is actually the engine or muffler bearings haha

Rotella T5 is a CJ-4 rated oil. It is designed for diesel, don't worry. For future reference you could check the back of an oil for the API doughnut...if it says CI-4 or CJ-4 it is fine for your truck. Diesel oils are rated in API "C" (compression based ignition) while gas oils are "S" class (spark based ignition).
