to chip or not to chip????
I have an 04 6.0 powerstroke. It is almost all stock. i have 5 inch turbo back exhaust, that is the only mod. it has a factory updated egr cooler done some time ago. original head gaskets and head bolts as far as i know. Is it safe to do a 80hp economy tune? is it gonna blow my head gaskets? I have heard people say things either way. i want better fuel economy and most tunes say about 3-5 mpg gain. Is that true? Any advice?? Looking for any insight either way!!! thanks

I don't know much about 6.0 I'm sure mdub will comment, but I'd stud it and get a ts 6 position

No TS 6pos available for the 6.0 I would recommend a SCT

they dont make "chips" for 6.0s, its programmers now... and it all depends on how you drive it with the programmer on it

Thanks for the reply guys! I have heard good things about the sct programmer. I also believe your right about a programmer not a chip. I plan on getting on it why else would you buy a diesel? ha ha I mean im not gonna take this thing to the track but want a little better mileage and more power is never a bad thing!! If i called a place like inovative diesel or DP tuners would they tell me the best thing to do?? Any thoughts?? thanks again

is there a programmer that you can change on the fly for a 6.0.

Don't mod for fuel economy, because chances are you'll be disappointed. Mod for power, and if you happen to gain economy just be thrilled. FWIW, the higest HP custom tunes offer the best mileage, if you can keep your foot out of it. If you can't, you risk the gaskets so...

03/04 trucks take 5 min to reprogram 05+ are just under 2 minutes last I checked. Is that short amount of time worth damaging your trans? Typically once someone loads an x-street tune up or something, they will hardly find any reasons to go back to a lesser tune anyways. I DD a street tune in the winter, an x-street in the summer, then load up my tow tune anytime I hook to the camper, and load x-race when heading to a dyno or a drag strip.:c: |
I have a bulldog programer. It runs like I am not chained to the curb when I have the bulldog running. It runs so much more sluggish with the factory programing. I leave it on the economy setting 99.9% of the time. Still runs better. Extreme setting is just rude.

Extreme setting on a bullydog is a good way to destroy your transmission actually.

A SCT with Innovative's Xtreme Street or Race tune is WICKED.
