Two newbie questions
 

I am a newbie here and don't want to be a PIA (pain in a$$) but a couple of questions

Is there a post or site on here that lists a glossary of abbreviations used?

I don't have a code reader and it seems like maybe I should have one - what brand/model would be recommend for a 06 F350 6.0 PSD - I don't know if they are year/vehicle make specific.

The abbreviations you'll pick up as you hang out man, if you don't know, just ask.

Some of the common one's I use that are more specific in this section are:
EOT (engine oil temp)
ECT (engine coolant temp)
ICP (injection control pressure)
IPR (injection pressure regulator)
FICM (fuel injection control module)
EBP (Exhaust back pressure, also type is as EPB in a hurry a lot)
KOEO (key on engine off)
WOT (wide open throttle!)

Some non diesel specifics:
FWIW (for whatever it's worth)
IMO (in my opinion)

I'm sure there are others.



As for code reader, most just use their handheld tuner (I use my SCT). I also have Autoenginiuity, which is a great datalogging/code reading program. You can do a LOT with this. It runs about $350 or so for the software and cable, you need a labtop to put it on too. That cost includes the enhanced ford bundle, there really isn't much you can't figure out with AE. It does quite a bit, including injector buzz tests, data log anything the PCM/ECM/TCM can see, read codes not only for engine trouble codes, but trans codes, chassis codes etc. Very useful.

A "degas bottle" is where the coolant goes. How it got that name I don't know, it took me a while to figure it out. Also, always remember that when it comes to MPG (miles per gallon) and/or HP (horsepower), some guys are full of BS.

I'd recommend down loading the coffee table manual for your rig in the begining of the Ford section. I did, I read most of it and its a pretty good entry level "How it works" manual. Then there are the codes and what they mean at the end.

Mdub, where can you get the Auto Enginiuity with the cable and all that?

I'm interested in the Ford program, all the way up to the present 2011' trucks, duramax, and Cummins. without these programs will it also do regular OBDII on American cars and imports?

It will do standard OBD stuff too, the enhanced bundle just really lets you take control of the stuff on the truck. For instance with the truck running in the driveway I can command the turbo vanes open or closed and listen to it happen. I can also do an injector buzz test and listen to them buzz. Etc...

There are quite a few places, I bet some of the sponsors sell them.
