while driving from a takeoff the engine wants to surge untill it reaches high gear it does not do it all the time mostly when the engine is cold. 05 ford 6.0l 150,000 miles egr delete, ARE cold air intake, head studs

any roughness to the engine? smoke when its doing it? has the turbo ever been replaced?

what brand fuel filters and oil filter do you use? have you checked your oil level?

Ever have the FICM replaced or tested for any reason?

no roughness, no smoke, turbo had a some kind of ring replaced last month when ford replaced #8,#3, injectors, standpipes, Hpop, Use Shell Rotella 15 w 40 use motorcraft filters, oil level is fdine just changed around 1000 miles ago but i keep an eye on it cause it does use some oil. The truck does smoke when first startred pretty heavy untill it has warmed up does not matter the tewmp i live in Ohio and we have been having spring temps 50,s 60,s white smoke, Put new batteries in two nights ago it did it today and i checked the voltage while surging it was 14.1

DieselDanBoy 12-15-2011 04:39 PM

your talking 14.1V from the alternator? thats perfect.

what color smoke are you seeing? how long will it crank before it starts?

im thinking a possible turbo issue?

fixorepair 12-15-2011 06:46 PM

white smoke no coolant loss and starts within 3 to 5 secs, the A ring that was replaced in the turbo a month ago everything else checked out ok in the turbo

the dealership has hooked back up to the scanner and say everything is fine

03Powerstroke 12-15-2011 07:28 PM

does it smell sweet or like fuel?? have you checked the FICM??

fixorepair 12-15-2011 08:06 PM

like fuel but FICM has 48 volts and on the ford scanner all cyl look good and all have good curve during acceleration.

03Powerstroke 12-15-2011 08:19 PM

is it 48v during all 3 parts...(key on, crank, and running)???

fixorepair 12-20-2011 11:57 AM

sorry it took so long the wife had to get shopping done I will check it again in the morning

yes between 47.4 - 48 on all three it seems to surge most when the engine is cold. But it has also done it while hot. I started looking at turbos on ebay and bought a used garret stock, off of 06 with 66,000 miles wasa pulled to put an upgrade on (must have more money than he knows what to do with) LOL. I bought it for 200 it has sat for 5 months is there anything i should do or check before install.

Do the cleaning process at the top of the 6.0 page. I'll bet it's nice and rusty if it's been sitting for 5 months. If they sit for a week installed on the truck they start rusting up.

It might be worth checking your glow plugs and glow plug relays out.

Try plugging the truck in over night and starting it again in the morning and see if the problem is the same/better/worse.
