2005 ford powerstroke 6.0 bogging down
So bought a 2005 ford f250 6.0 powerstroke it ran good while it was warm but now in ohio its in the teens and 20's for temp. 2 days ago i forgot to plug in my heater and it started kinda hard but now it boggs down and blows white smoke until the temp gauge is bout a quarter of the way up. My buddy told me to try a fuel additive and change the fuel filter im just wondering if thats all it really is. I dont do much heavy hauling mostly just drive 20-25 minutes to and from work and bout 30min to and from hunting. Im hoping its nothing serious or my wifes i told u so's will last forever.

First,
get the batteries load tested, it's simply amazing how bad they run with low batteries. If one is bad, replace BOTH. Second, Test the FICM. My guess is you will find this is weak. Head down to the 6.0 section on here, there is a write up on how to do it.:c: Welcome to the site! |
ok thanks i will do that as soon as i can unfortunatly i have strep throat so im laid up in bed. Also im new to diesel trucks but have always wanted one. The truck is completely stock so what is the first upgrades i should do to my truck. I really like a smoking diesel and as you know mine doesnt. I was thinking bout some exhaust work i like my truck kinda loud.

Go to the 6.0 section and start reading, tons of info there. Sounds like you'll have some time to spare to read too!
Also, just as an FYI, diesel motorsports as a whole is taking on a new outlook, and smoke is no longer cool. You will get chewed up and spit out for saying things like "How do I make my truck smoke more?"... just as an FYI, especially on the forums. :c: |

sounds like the white smoke is just due to the engine being cold to me...
|
not with my 6.0....if theres any smoke from coldness it only lasts a few seconds, id bet on the batts or FICM also
|
mine is doing the exact same thing. Tested my FICM the other day and it was reading 40v. Yep its bad. If I plug it in overnight though it doesnt do it. When the FICM starts going bad fuel is not getting atomized properly at the injectors, therefore you end up with white smoke...AKA raw fuel leaving the tail pipe.
