Ever see a check engine light go off

What could it mean, is the problem no longer. I had some issues, four codes. replaced the ficm. Ran better only one code Po 0283 after replacing ficm. One thing, I was checking the wire harness to the ficm for the most coming chafing points per ford. I noticed when i moved the wires harness under the ficm a little to the left of it. I heard a click and the engine revved a little hire. Sounding pretty good though. So i went and put some new diesel in and fire power. On my way home I jumped on it a couple of times and it had good response. When I got home I noticed the check engine light was off. Could this mean it might have been the wire harness and not a injector? Does the computer check itself continually? and if a problem is no longer it resets itself. Or is this just wishful thinking.

if the ficm wasnt fully connected it can make the truck do a bunch of weird stuff

i have had codes clear it’s not uncommon.

Yeah if you mistakenly "fixed" something under the hood it certainly could have went away. The truck is constantly scanning/reading things. I can definitely clear a code on it's own. Chances are there is still something stored there, but the check engine light itself is gone.

03powerstroke is right, it's AMAZING how poor a 6.0 will run with a clip just SLIGHTLY undone on the FICM.

well it came back on. But i am thinking I have a harness issue. Like i said when i moved the harness i heard a click and the engine revved up. mane a perfect idle.

Before when I had the one code, when i came to a stop the engine would seem to die down.

After the movement of the harness and click, at a stop it still idled strong.

I will keep play with it , hope i can get it to stay if not I think I will be changing the harness. Is it real hard or just a couple of connections. I know the 8 for the cylinder and the two for the ficm

When I was researching all this I see ford came out with a new harness with them separated The one is for the ficm power and the other two wrapped together are for the cylinder. Is this true for my 04. Otherwise I will have to get the whole three wrapped together which is pretty pricey

They are two separate harness' on all of them I believe. At least on my 06, there is a harness that goes from the PCM to the FICM, then there is a harness that goes from the FICM to the 8 injectors. That one isn't hard to do at all, and I've heard of them causing issues before as well.

What was the code it was throwing, that will probably tell you where you need to look.

Jimmysd 12-08-2011 08:58 AM

Po 0283 was the only code

Mdub707 12-08-2011 09:23 AM

That's an electrical code for #8 injector. I would check out the harness very well going from that injector to the FICM. That injector is on the drivers side closest to the firewall.

Jimmysd 12-08-2011 02:33 PM

i just flushed the antifreeze. Figure better do some maintenance before any other problems.

I was just going to ask which injector

Thanks Mdub707 and thank you to everybody else also

ford dealership what a joke. I just noticed what looks to be duct tape on the #8 injector cable. Thats what they call a recall . What a joke.

WTF? You can take it off and take a real good look at the wires, but those things are so finicky I feel like you're going to need to just buy another one. Maybe look for a good used one on ebay or the forums.

Called ford and the dealer if they did this during the recall they are paying

Took a real good look it is duct taped around a wire back there near the #8 and it goes to what looks like a ground screw. A wire with a ring crimped on it. And where it looks like it should be bolted it is not. It looks like it should be bolted to a shield over the exhaust manifold existing.

Depending on how much I drink tonight...

If I remember in the morning I'll take a look at mine and see what I can find out for you!

Jimmysd 12-08-2011 09:50 PM

yeah spoke with the gm of service. He said sometimes they put a silver wrap around wires for heat. On mine you can clearly see the thickness off the wire and where it was cut and the thin section in the middle. My feeling is this was a too short wire harness which was what the recall was all about. My guns are out and i am going there tuesday.

On another note after playing with this section and listening for changes. The check engine light is off again. I am getting up early to get it smoged before the light comes back on.

Kinda last question. If the light comes on there is a problem. Does it remain o till the problem is remedied.Or does it shut off the light and just store the code.
