Hi everyone. I'm new here and not very good with the computer so please forgive me if I am in the wrong place on this site. I have a problem with my 04 F250 Crew Cab Short Bed with a 6.0. I have had it about a year and it has a Banks Six G?un with Speed Loader, AFE Air Intake,Banks 4" exhaust. I just had it in a shop where they did the following: Blocked EGR valve and replaced the cooler with a good used one, replaced oil cooler, heads, head gaskets, ARP studs, intake manifold gaskets, injector seal kit, fuel housing gaskets, oil and filter, oil pressure sending unit, oil filter cap, coolant/additive, coolant reservoir,CAC Boots, radiator hoses, glow plug harnesses, timing belt, exhaust manifold gaskets, thermostat Bypass Hose and port plugs!! Got the truck back yesterday and this morning it would not start!!!! I AM NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!!! I did get ahold of the shop and they are sending a tow truck in the AM but have already said they don't think it is anything they did or didn't do. He was talking about the high pressure oil system or the FICM. Does this sound correct to any or all of you guys? I am wondering if I got ripped off and not sure I should let these guys have my truck again

Did your truck throw any codes ???

First question, is there any smoke coming out the exhaust when you try to start it? If not, then it's a high pressure oil leak or a FICM like the shop said. Let us know if there is smoke or not first and we can go from there. I can't believe they did all that work and didn't update the common high pressure oil problem areas. I'm doing this job soon myself and I will be replacing the stand pipes and dummy plugs with the new models, and doing the STC fitting on mine as well, all very common areas for leaks and all have new updated Ford parts, and they're not that expensive.

If it is FICM related, I can fix it. I can also help you test it on your own, but first let us know if you're getting smoke or not.

Thanks, and welcome to the site! :c:

not starting

Thanks for answering guys but since I didn't know to look back at my own message for a reply,{ looked on the weong page here} I went ahead and let the shop come get my truck hoping it was something they did or didn't do and it wouldn't cost me anything. WRONG!!! They told me it is the FICM and would cost $1000 to replace it. Does that sound right? I don't have much choice now but if I'm getting ripped off I need to know. This place was recommended by a guy I met who had work done there and trusts them. This AM the tow truck driver was the same one who picked up the truck the first time and recognized it as he drove up. It is never a good sign when tow truck drivers know your truck on sight! LOL.

You might want to check ebay and maybe install it yourself if you can. If im searching for the right part it looks to be around 400 dollars on there. i found it as low as 250 plus 150 core charge. Good luck.

Mdub707 12-06-2011 07:24 AM

Ford FICM: $900 new without programming
Ford FICM half shell: $400
Swamps rebuilt units: $450 or so, plus $300 core

There are other options...

Much cheaper options...

I'm sending you a PM.

thanks mdub for the info

After you replace the ficm i would get rid of that 6gun tuner, they are notorious for destroying ficms on 6.0s

Mdub707 12-07-2011 07:19 AM

I thought it was PCM's they ate...

stone 12-07-2011 09:22 PM

Your right Mdub they do, but i was under the impression 6guns and TS chips killed ficms just like the older strategies did? If im wrong sorry

6gun destroying things

Hi again everyone,
It doesn't matter what it destroys....I CANNOT AFFORD IT!!!!!
The shop is telling me now that all 8 injectors are stuck and need to be replaced. He has never seen this before. He's not sure if the FICM went first or the injectors went first but they are all shot, to the tune of $3000+. The 6gun is history till I can learn more about it!!!

Mdub707 12-08-2011 07:24 AM

That sounds like complete BS to me bud. 8 injectors don't all go bad at once. I bet your FICM is weak and it's falsely throwing injector codes.

I would strongly suggest taking the truck to another shop, or let us help you figure it out, there is no way that is necessary if you had a normal running truck not long ago. Unless someone intentionally destroyed your fuel system.

There is no way the 6 gun did this either. No way, no how.

If you want to talk more feel free to PM me and I can give you my cell and we can talk this over, because it sounds like you're getting raked over the coals here.

ford4x4fan 12-08-2011 10:42 PM

Mdub, I haven't figured out how to pm on here yet or I would. Could you tell me?
The shop mech says that when he replaced the ficm and the injectors wouldn't work he tried a different one thinking that the first one was bad even though it was new. Still nothing, he then checked the ficm voltage and it was good, he put the first new one back in and checked it too and it was good but the injectors won't work with either ficm. While I was there, he hooked up an old injector he had laying around and it buzzed like they are supposed to when you turn the key on. Any thoughts?
