EGR on 06 F250

It's been sputtering off and on--now most of the time--and check engine light is on. took it to auto zone--"minimum EGR position above a calibrated level. Probably cause: Short circuit or Faulty EGR valve.

Question: Have no idea how to fix a short circuit--should I just replace the valve and see it if it runs better? Do I need to unhook batteries to "flash" the copmputer to clear the check engine light?

you could replace the valve or you could do a delete kit on it but that requires a tuner

I'd try a new EGR valve first but it's not cheap.

Start by removing the EGR valve and cleaning it first.

Cleaning it easy. It takes a little to get the ERG to come loose. I used on of those rubber strap wrenches to get it to twist a little (1/4 inch) then a little tiny pry bar to gently rock it up and out. Then I used 2 cans of carb cleaner. Others say not to get any of that cleaner on the electrical connector. You may want to clean your electrical connector though, but you can do that later with it installed, if cleaning it doesn't fix it. I had a PO404 error.

Is this the best way to remove the EGR?

Is this the best way to remove the EGR and what is the "best" way to clean it?

There is no best way to get it out. Just get it out without damaging anything else. Some slide right out, others are STUCK. Mine was stuck so bad I couldn't get it out with a pry bar. I still haven't gotten it out, I swapped the whole intake manifold. Need to get that out sometime still...

Just clean it with a tooth brush or some sort of soft wire brush and carb cleaner. Do NOT use brake cleaner. Remove the o-rings prior to cleaning as well, so you don't damage them.

I just prefer to delete it all!

Pulled the EGR today - 06 6.0 PSD with 156,000 - first time out out of the truck.

Luckily it came out easily
