Straight pipe question...

So what would be the downside of straightpiping the exhaust from the turbo back... without having a programmer/ tuner?? besides the check engine light coming on... thanks guys... and my truck is stock in the performance area... 170k on it...

Re: Straight pipe question...

It wont hurt anything and you wont have a check engine light either.

Have had a straight pipe for years it wont give you problems at all. Sounds sweet and lets er breathe. Only a problem if your in an area with laws regardin cats and mufflers. Even still not many cops no to much about it and plus a turbo acts like a type of muffler as in it keeps it quieter haha sorta. You will still pass an e test to.

It won't hurt anything if you do a full length straight pipe, however, if you do a shorty and have a downpipe and a cat-delete it will hurt your ears. At idle an uncorked 6.0 sounds like a jet engine, then when the RPMs get up there the V8 roar comes out in her, it's a beautiful moment.

So the next question is would there be an obnoxious droning noise when running highway speeds and towing a trailer. In this case would it be best to just delete the cat and have a high flow muffler, instead of a straight pipe all the way back.

I had a 4" straight through Dynomax muffler, when I deleted it, there wasn't as much change as I thought there would be. My biggest sound gains were in dumping the resonator (cat was gone when I bought it). If I had to do it again, I'd get this set up from MBRP and be done with it. No cat, no muffler, no problem!

A straight piped exhaust exiting in the stock location barely drones at all, and once up to speed it's about as quiet as stock. It's only loud at idle outside the truck and that is just a whistle, not a loud V8 noise or anything. Once you smash the skinny pedal you'll scare people. It's great. Nothing sounds like a straight piped 6.0 :pca1:

That answers that. Straight pipe it is, and to hell with the crazy lady next door.

Mdub707 10-17-2011 02:08 PM

She'll think it's a leer jet docking up in your driveway. The whistle is insane. Imagine a hair dryer on steroids.

It will sound like an S-3B Viking on short final to the boat!! Its a beautiful thing!:rocking:
