EGR Fan Issue

If I had a code for malfuntioning EGR valve and then cleaned it , would that cause the fan to throw a code for not reaching max RPM? Only 30% according to a friend with a engineuity scaner.:humm: Or is this two seperate issues or one in the same. I might add that what trigered all of this is when pulling on long grades the truck would spike the temp guage and the check engine light would come on, but so far only when puling 8000 lb load and on long grade. sorry the truck is a 2005 6.0 superduty. Thanks in advance for any help.

The fan should be a separate function of the EGR. I know some strategies, with an EGR delete, will not let the fan turn on. If you still have your EGR valve though, that's not the issue, especially if it's actually turning the fan on. Could just be as simple as a bad fan clutch, they can and do go. How many miles on the truck?

Thank for the reply it has 168,000 on it with no issues other than stated. I did just replace the clutch last night and am going to my friends house to night, and see if it will stay cleared and see if he can get it above 30% with the computer since he could not with the old clutch. The reason for the question was I read that in some instances the egr will screw up the fan if remove or broken wire. I just spent to me alot of money on a new fan clutch so I am hoping that is my problem. Thanks again

What you read is partially correct, it has to do with a very specific strategy though, so not every truck would have this symptom. It is possible I suppose, but being that your fan was kicking on partially, I'd have to point to a failed clutch as well. It's amazing what it takes to really get these things hot and have the fan come on. The cooling system is simply amazing on these.

I have to tell you , I really love this truck and motor I have had this since it was 2 years old and have only had to replace the FICM 1 time [which was enough I might add] Other than that I have had no problems like a lot of other people have had ,I do not know if I am just lucky or got a good or people just do not understand diesel's and there maint. While I got you off the top of your head do you think that I am on the right path replacing of the clutch to cure my intermitent over heat problem. I might add that I am coming do for a oil cooler replace ment due to my delta starting to spread to far. Thank you very much for the help.

Take care of that oil cooler issue ASAP, since that will lead to blown EGR coolers and eventually blown headgaskets.

Take a look into getting a coolant filter on there too, great time to do it if you're going to be swapping oil coolers. They're about $120 or so.

I have a buddy with an 05 with 289,000 miles on it, never replaced anything on it, still on original injectors, original egr cooler, original oil cooler... just now taking the cab off to do headstuds and some updates. He did have one injector starting to stick real bad so we're swapping that too. I am only at 90,000 miles and my heads have been off 3 times now. It's all been dealer work though, I'm doing it myself now and doing it the RIGHT way! Can't wait! I'll be posting tons of pics and steps along the way for all to see too. :c:

Also if you have any more issues with FICM's, let me know, I can fix those.
