04 F250 6.0 Won't Run,

Hey, I gotta 04 F250 6.0 That wont run, checked the fuses, They are all good. Then listened for a sound for the fuel pump, it has one, checked the DSP's one that caught my eye is something about low injector pressure P2290 Injector Control Pressure too low. The truck has 200k miles and is reasonably clean. Good Batteries. Before it quit running, for months, it would shut off for no reason and eventually start back up. It has been to the dealership several times for that problem, but noone can fix it, partially cause it runs fine by the time it gets there. When i engage the starter no smoke is coming out of the exhaust so I'm sure it's not getting fuel. When I turn on the key you can hear the electronic fuel injection controller clicking like the sound of the engine, if it was running. Can anyone tell me how to correct this?

Might be the IPR sensor, it is a relief valve for the high pressure oil pump, if it sticks it won't allow the HPOP build enough pressure to fire the injectors.

Yes. Get it on a scanner, I agree with Bob.

mine is doing the same thing with the no-start:argh:
im thinking its the ipr

Well IPR didn't fix it. 4C3Z-9F838-A This sensor apparently tests for motor oil pressure before it allows the fuel injection to work. What kind of things can I do next. Still it wont start, with no smoke in the exhaust. Is there a fuel pressure test I should do, even though I hear a pump running? My problem seems to be completely electronic, but I have been wrong plenty of times. :dang:

Well throwing parts at it wont help, it needs to be put on a scanner. You can't just diagnose it blindly here...

What you replaced is the IPR, it's not a sensor, rather a "valve" that controls the flow of oil for the high pressure oil pump. The code you had was for the ICP which is the injector control pressure sensor. It could be that sensor, but again you'd be blindly throwing parts, but at least it has a code for that so it 1/2 makes sense to replace the ICP.

If you had this on a scanner you could tell in about 2 minutes if it was ICP or IPR related. Know anyone that has a scanner around? If you don't and want to just throw more parts at it, the ICP makes the most sense to check next, it will have the symptoms you describe.

Could be a leak in the high pressure oil system also.

The things to look for w/ a scanner are:
ICP (pressure)
ICP desired (what reading the PCM is trying to achieve)
IPR duty cycle.

Well we finally fixed it. The scanner clearely showed an oil pressure of 0 and a intended pressure of something like 1150 psi so the pump was not working. Thanks for your help!!! :jump: It's a funny thing, I figured the fuel pump would keep it from running, but it is a second, high pressure oil pump that was the culprit.:c:

Easily detected on a scanner... just check for desired ICP vs. actual ICP. The first clue should have been the code for low ICP... That's an EASY check. If your dealer took this long to find that, find a new dealer!

Glad you got it fixed and we appreciate you reporting back because we don't always get to hear the outcome! Thanks man! :c:

Okay, so mine has done the no start thing also and no smoke while cranking. If I crank it long enough (25secs or so) the dash says "TBC FAULT". I too got the "Injector Control Pressure Too Low" reading. I read somewhere on here to unplug the ICP and see if it starts. I unplugged it and still nothing. Pluged it back in and it started. It's done this twice now. Both times after it had been running and starting just fine, then set for a few hours.

Anyway, I plan on getting it put on a scanner. My question (finally) is... Accubuck said it was a second high pressure oil pump that was the problem? I only have known of the HPOP everyone says keeps going out on these. Is there more than one or are you referring to something else?

And also, not to sound as dumb as I feel, what kind of scanner are you all talking about and can it only be done at a dealer or can any auto repair shop (like a trans shop with scanners) hook it up and help me?
