new oil now rough idle

so i just changed the oil for the first time in my truck and i switched to rotella T5 synthetic i used 3quarts lucas and 12quarts oil, and i started my truck this morning when it was like 55 degrees ouside and it idled rough at first and then it worked itself out and hasnt donr it the rest of the day, so is this normal or not?

type of filter??

Why are you using 3 quarts of lucas? I wouldn't put a lucas product anywhere in/on/around my truck. Had you started the truck before this since the oil change, or was this the first start since the oil change? What filter and cap are you using?

im running wix, thats the only filter i will ever run on anything, i was told that lucas is real good with the engines, and yes i had started it before, i started it up and let it run for 15 min for the oil to fill the fuel filter and cycle through the motor so i can check it properly, it hasnt done it for a couple days and it did it again a little this morning.

I would NOT run the WIX on these, Motorcraft or international only. Did your oil filter come with it's own cap or does it use the factory cap?

Wix normally makes good filters, but these engines are very picky about what they need.

It could just be coincidence as well, may have nothing to do with the oil change.

To answer your question, no, this isn't normal. I'm still trying to understand why you used 3 quarts of lucas product, what lucas additive is this exactly? Why do you think you need it even? Everyone else seems to be ok with just oil. Only additive I would use is Rev-X. :c:

Absoluitely "spot on" Mdub!! Hope he listens to you!

it comes with its own cap the one i pulled off the cap was attached also but what does that matter? jus curious, okay i guess il remember that when i change my filter in bout 750 miles lol, it is lucas oil additive, i ran it in both my previous diesels also, so you guys say not to use lucas??

bobfbigman 09-13-2011 05:54 PM

the oil filter snaps into stock oil cap, you just pull it off and snap the new one in, the filters that come with the cat attached are not for your Ford trucks, they are for the big box trucks because I think they have a different filter housing. DO NOT USE IT,OIL IS NOT BEING FILTERED IT IS BYPASSING THE FILTER.

Get rid of that junk ASAP. Never use any of the filters that have their own cap for these, they've been known to cause havoc. Some of them will actually starve the motor for oil. Go get a stock cap and a Motorcraft oil filter ASAP. Do NOT wait 750 miles.

The lucas is up to you, but I see absolutely no reason and no benefit to running it. Stick with a good quality oil. Our engines thrive on it, not just for lube, but to make the motor run! Why would you need 3 quarts of this stuff anyways? That seems like a lot.

okay i will go to the dealer and get a new filter on friday, the one i get from the dealer will it come with a cap and filter or do i have to buy the cap separate? and im running Rottela T5 full synthetic, that good enough?? LOL
