overload spring problem

My brother has a 04 f350. Today i was going down the road with no load and one of the overload spring broke in half and came out. this is the 3rd time its done that. Its done it on both side now. We only use it for moving towing the race car trailer and its not that heavy.
Stoped at a parts house and a man at the desk told me his 04 250 has done the same thing 1 other time. Has anyone herd of this going on? if a random guy at the parts house had it happen how big is this problem?

Never heard of this as a problem, but springs can and do break. I've broke them on my rangers before. Never overloaded them at all, the heaviest thing they carried was a race quad.

The biggest thing when replacing them is if you do only one side, the height of the truck should be within 1" side to side, and the perches/springs all that needs to be REALLY clean. Any spec of dirt will create a very high stress concentration on the metal.
