6.0 problems
 
Hi everyone Iam new to this site an i have a problem with my 2006 powerstorke......wont start it will spin over but no fire.....have to shoot starting fulid for it to start so whats up anyone clues???? :argh: thanks everyone, Orville

I have an 06 also and my truck was having starting problems and I had to replace the glow plugs wiring harness under the valve covers mean while I had it a part I put in some new glow plugs also now its all good under the hood !

Don't use anymore starting fluid, it doesn't mix well with heated glowplugs...

When you crank are you getting any smoke out the exhaust? If no smoke, check FICM first. You can google search the test for it and even how to repair it. I've posted it here several hundred times as well.

With as little info given in this thread, the three of you could have different issues.

If you're cranking and it's turning over but not starting, we need to know if you have smoke coming out.

If you plug your truck in and it starts easier, it's probably glow plugs. You can test them...

If you're cranking and getting no smoke, it's more than likely the FICM.

you also need to check your oil pressure. if you have no oil pressure then your truck will not fire. the hpop delivers oil pressure needed to fire and continously run you injectors. if you have no pressure on your dash chances are you have a bad hpop. replace the ipr also if you do end up replacing hpop

No pressure on dash is LOW pressure related.

500psi is required to fire injectors. Nature of the beast is if you dont hear injectors click when koeo or faintly hear them its FICM related. weak solenoids in the injector will cause a weak buzz but all 8 being weak or quiet = FICM.

High pressure oil leaks are common, Stand pipes, dummy plugs, stc fitting, rare-branch tubes. IPR damage is common along with IPR failure. Remove it see if the screen is plugged or broken. Replace as needed. ICP sensor, unplug it and crank it see if it fires. If it does needs an ICP sensor. 06 ICP is on the pass side valve cover towards the front, youll have to crank it for a while continuously and i HIGHLY suggest putting a battery charger on the battery due to the fact you can burn the FICM out from starving it of voltage.

A high pressure oil problem will probably still have some smoke coming out the exhaust, which is why I pointed that out. No smoke at all, injectors are not firing, ie.. most likely a FICM. Some smoke, we can go from there, but we need more info.

nah if its bad enough the injectors wont fire period. there is a way to get it to fire though and it involves a jack hammer air compressor which produces SUPER high air pressure.... lol not a practical way to get a 6.0 to fire and not good should it back feed oil through the air compressor...

the special service tool that every dealer SHOULD have that turns shop air up to 200psi, if used when cranking the engine supposedly can get the engine to fire... so i imagine a jack hammer compressor can do the same thing. The old ingersol rand my dad had when we had the campground used to blow all the waterlines out within a matter of seconds when we winterized the entire park. thats saying something.

Right, if it's that bad chances are the IPR is stuck open right Bill? May have to pull the screen and see if you see any debris back there. FICM is easier to test first though..
