My buddy has a 2003 f250 with a 6.0 and it starts hard and idles like crap. We replaced all the injectors cuz it was blowin black smoke all the time. After we replaced them it stopped smokin but still idles rough. We have replaced the egr cooler and the high pressure oil pump and the pressure regulator and the pump in the tank replaced and the cam position sensor. Still runs rough any suggestions will help:argh:

Any codes?
EGR valve?

Have you tested the FICM?

I've had two times when I had simptoms similar. First was ICP and the second was the FICM. I think the ICP should throw a code and the FICM is super easy to test. No need to throw parts at it...

Why are these parts being put on, was there codes or is someone just throwing parts at it?

Definitely sounds like it needs to be hooked to a scanner.

We need more info about the truck too. How many miles? How is it driven most of the time? (be honest here). Tow ever? Other mods? Did symptoms just start happening out of the blue or have they been a long time coming?

he took it into a shop and got it scanned they said the number 6 injector was bad and the cam sensor was bad. we replaced all 8 injectors and cam sensor and it helped a little stopped it from smoking so bad but it still idles rough and a little low on power. the truck has 118,000 on it i think. no we havent tested the ficm. how do you do that? he bought the truck with these problems even though i told him not to. im a john deere tech and he asked if i would fix it if he bought i said i would try. this engine is alot different than a inline john deere engine:jump:.

What's the EGR valve look like? Has it been taken out and cleaned? Has the FICM been tested like RAWilliams suggested? that's easy as pie to do and will tell you a lot.

For a shop to replace all the injectors and charge you big $$'s without even testing the FICM is hard to believe, maybe even irresponsible! Maybe it was needed, but you sure can't tell it based on what has been discussed so far ..........

I stood right next to my buddies side as we brought his 04 6.0 in to a Ford dealer, where a certified master diesel technician tried telling us it needed injectors 2,4,6,8. Hmm, seems odd that all 4 injectors on one bank would go bad all of a sudden. He insisted these injectors needed to be replaced. We told him it had been throwing FICM codes for a month. He still insisted the injectors be replaced. Then tried to blame it on our "biodiesel". The truck was using a vegistroke kit, and running on 100% WVO. To a guy running WVO, when someone says youre running bio, it's like telling you diesel guys you're using gas... they're not the same fuel. He insisted our "bio" was killing the lubricity in the injectors. Has this guy ever eaten fried food before? No lubricity? WVO is one of the most lubricative things I can think of. Probably why the injector noise is almost non existant when on WVO. We told him not to touch any injectors, to replace the FICM. He replaced it, truck was fine. He still tried selling us on 2 injectors even after that, but I think he was just trying to save face. This was one of the most frustrating days I've ever had at a Ford dealership, and that's saying a lot owning a 6.0.
