Ok, started on Friday and it is now the end of the day Saturday. We have the cab off, and the heads are removed. Took us a full day to get the cab off under the circumstances haha. We had to rig up a few things but it all worked out. Here are some pictures and we are hoping to be done by Monday night! Keep your fingers crossed :c:

I guess you need a specialty tool to take it off but we just made our own. Ill get those pics up tomorrow. Everything has gone pretty smooth so far except that. If any of you guys plan on doing this or have any questions let me know. Goodnight for now got to hit it hard again tomorrow. |
Awesome dude! Keep taking pics for us!

Well boys i got the head studs, egr delete, and everything from the block up back on the engine. Also got the cab back on and the interior put back together, Cleaned the radiator and the inter-cooler out. The inter-cooler was filled with oil. I spoke with someone who told me about a really cheap turbo mod because the VGT drains oil into the intercooler???? Said he has a hose running from the turbo to his frame rail and thats where is excess oil goes? Anyone heard of this? Said it was the CNV or C something mod. I found out that the turbo has been remanned. Doesn't have a date or mileage on it. The fins in the turbo dont have any play and look new. Is it normal for oil to be in the cooler??
Got the wife out there today to help clean up and sort tools that were EVERYWHERE. As you can tell she wasn't too enthused haha. I also put up some pictures of the socket i had to cut to be able to get that braided oil line out of there. I still say that was the hardest part of breaking that engine down. Thanks for all the help guys Attachment 41138 Attachment 41139 Attachment 41140 Attachment 41141 Attachment 41142 Attachment 41143 Attachment 41144 Attachment 41145 Attachment 41146 Attachment 41147 ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- O and no i didnt put the gaskets straight on those dirty heads haha they were cleaned up and checked! |
Awsome Job Bud :c:

O and one last thing. I kind of procrastinated on getting my coolant. In this engine would running straight water damage the engine or would i overheat? I know it sounds dumb but i have to hit the road monday morning to head back to base and there are NO dealerships open?? Checked all the walmarts and autoshops around and nothing!

You'll be fine with distilled water (MAKE SURE IT'S DISTILLED!!!). Just don't leave it til winter time, or you're going to have major problems.
As for the oil drain, that is complete nonsense. The oil from the turbo drains back into the motor and needs to continue to do that. What you CAN do is the CCV mod, which is just a crank case vent. That vents into the intake in FRONT of the turbo. The oil goes into the turbo and through the intercooler piping and into the intercooler. Every 6.0 out there does this, it's not the end of the world, but you can see it does make an oily mess on intercooler boots and what not. Just search for CCV mod. There are a few ways to do this. It has nothing to do with oil feed or oil drain for the turbo, that NEEDS to remain intact! So how long did this actually take you of real working time? Pretty interesting setup you had there, I dig it. |
Thats the mod he was telling me abut, just didnt word it right i guess.
Well 90% of the first day was figuring out how to hang the cab, a few dents later we found a way that actually worked. but after that it only took 24 hours. Made one hell of a weekend though. We built the engine from the block up, torqued the heads and all that junk, got the cab on and put the interior back together in 8 hours. I just drove it 8 hours and she purred the whole way! |
Just out of curiosity, what did you do for surface prep on the block? That's one area I can't ever seem to get a defnite answer. Some people do nothing, some go through the whole 9 yards, and I get different answers everywhere I ask. Some work no matter what, others don't, I can't seem to find a common denominator. Just wondering what you did, if anything. Thanks for all the pictures!:c:

I cleaned it up with a hard plastic scraper then used a light wire wheel to get the hard stuff. Doesn't leave any scratches or gouges but it cleans it nicely. Ive always done that to my gasser trucks and haven't had any problems. Ive got some more to put up later tonight. I have a vid of initial start up too. Still sounds rough because of those two injectors. Has like a lope idle haha. Im pullin mine out this week and taking them up to get my new ones. It just sucks that i have to get back under the hood that quick but i gotta do what i gotta do.

As far as block prep I would use a angle die grinder with a "GREEN" scotch brite disk, works really good but does not damage the surface,, I'm liking your setup, might have to copy that whenever I do mine, setup outside the garage then roll it in to do the work on motor then roll it back out,, Awsome job

Ok here is the last day, just did a few small things and a zoodad Mod. Its a little different than normal. I cut out a larger hole than ive seen most people do. Also, instead of gluing screen on i strapped it around the air inlet, clamped it, and cut the excess screen off. If you notice my oil dipstick is part fuel line haha. Why buy a new one that you'll end up snapping again when you can use a piece of hose you have laying around. In the video you can tell its idleing really rough. That is because of the two injectors being out not because of the mods we did.
Click the link at the top of the vid because it wont post correctly. Im glad to have that behind me! Attachment 41113 Attachment 41114 Attachment 41115 Attachment 41116 http://s1094.photobucket.com/albums/i443/ruger5901/?action=view¤t=P7040191.mp4 |
Good job. I run the zoodad similar to that, but I don't use a screen at all, never really found anything bigger than a bee or some sort of bug on the filter, so not really a big deal.
Thanks for sharing all the pics. |
You didnt have to remove the back seat. Heres the Tool to remove those quick disconnect fittings from the oil rail without having to make a crows foot or use an 02 socket
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Other than that Congrats. Bet your happier you pulled the cab than fight in cab! |
