6.0 no start

Im having a issue with my 03 6.0, truck died and will not start. Have checked all obvious, batteries, oil, fuel, egr, fuses, wire chafing etc. After cranking 3 times, each 15-20 seconds oil pressure on dash jumps up and truck tries to start. Pulled ipr, no damage to screen, new icp also. Pulled valve covers, commanded ipr closed and put shop air to both oil rails, but no visible leak and cannot here any air leaking anywhere, just slight bubbleing noise from oil filter housing. Scanner is giving me low injector oil pressure code? It seems like it is loseing its oil prime after sitting just for a few min? Anybody have any ideas?

If there is no obvious leak, could be your hpop.
Did it just die while running? Have you had starting issues before hand, cold or hot?

Never had a no start problem, every once in awhile it seemed to crank alittle more than usual to start, but always started. Was wierd i changed fuel filters, drove about ten miles, and died, got it to start after messing with it for a few min, came home shut it off and hasnt ran since. I have went over the fuel system many times, and no there is no problem there.

sounds like the HPOP whan you get to it check to see if the ball fell out of the pump.

nick17989 06-09-2011 05:30 AM

alright ill check it this weekend, im not sure where the ball in the pump is but im guessing it wont b too hard to find?

If you cant hear a leak, its the HPOP ive replaced a ton of them in early build 6.0s. 03-04s.

I was kinda figuring that, it has 200,000 miles on it and iv never had any problems, guess it was about time, r they that hard to replace?

u said you could hear a bubleing noise coming from the oil filter? if so, then you have a leak somewhere. put a pressure gauge into the rail and put air pressure to it, and watch and see if it falls off. if so, it may be a leak somewhere.

nick17989 06-10-2011 11:55 AM

Ill try that but where the hell would the leak b? Could it b a problem with the oil filter housing??? Another thing when i command ipr closed all i hear is the little pissing in filter housing, but when i take power of ipr it releases all the pressure, that is normal right?

Is the a chesk valve or something that stops the oil from returning to filter, from the high side?

IPR commanded 84.99% is shut. 0% is open. i never really looked at the voltage pids, BUT what i would suggest is to go to sears buy the lisle vacuum leak stethescope and remove both valve covers. Once you do that, place the end on 1 rail at a time with the ipr commanded at 84.99 and 0%. Listen for any changes. and you will know if you have a leak or not if you remove the air hose and no oil comes shooting out or comes flying out. If it comes flying out the system is sealed. If no oil comes out, your looking at a leak.

I have ran into it a few times before where the truck wouldnt start hot and replaced dummy plugs for being worn, stand pipes being worn, stc bracket being lose, and icp sensor being biased and end up finding the branch tube having a hair line crack. VERY rare but out of the 1000s of hot no starts or outright no starts i may have changed 20-30 branch tube assemblies.
