EGR delete
Think I am going to do the EGR delete myself is there anything else that should be done while I am doing the egr delete?

How many miles you have? What other work has been done to the truck?
I would hot-tank the intake manifold to get all that crud out, but that eats time. I just bought a spare manifold and had it done before so when I did the job I could just swap. Make sure you have an extra set of intake manifold gaskets, especially since you've got an older truck. A turbo cleaning would be a good idea, but not necessary. I kind of wish I did mine when I had it off, whether it "needed it" or not. Wouldn't be a bad time to upgrade the turbo drain, it's cheap and you have to take the turbo off anyways. Changing the oil cooler out would be easier now with most of the crap off, but again, may or may not be necessary with what you're doing. If you don't already have a coolant filter, then I wouldn't bother with this anyways. |
It's a 2004 with 103k on it runs great right now!

Definitely get the extra set of intake manifold gaskets. I did an 04 with almost identical miles and it needed them. My 06 I just did had 85k miles and they were in OK shape, but not really usable. The 04, the gaskets tore apart on disassembly.

How complex do you want to make it? Doing a sneaky pipe mod can be effective till you do the full delete.

Well if there was an easier way then sure I would love to hear about it. Parts for the delete dnt look to expensive so it's just the time thing for me!

I did the sneaky pipe method and it works great. What i did was replaced the egr valve with a egr spool (bought mine on ebay) left the egr valve hooked up and layed it by the spool, replaced the up pipe only. I left the egr cooler in place and the back of it open. So if the egr cooler does fail it will just leak out the opening, down the back side of the block. You can use your up pipe u will just have to modify it by cutting the y part that goes into the egr cooler and capping it off. I bought a egr delete kit and the stock up pipe is in my opinion a better pipe as it is flexable and the pipe in the delete kit is not.

Using the stock up-pipe without the EGR cooler attached, will surely make it fail. It flexes too much and that bellowed section is notorious for cracking. I've had one crack that still had the cooler attached. The cooler actually acts like a support for it. You will have problems with it. I'd recommend going to a solid or if you really feel like you need the bellowed, there are upgraded ones with stainless mesh bellows. Those stockers are crap.
Lots of people use the solid up-pipe without issues, including me. I would at least weld that cooler shut if I was you, but to each his own. As long as it works for you dude. :c: |

I know Innovative Diesel sells them, but I'm unsure of who actually builds those.
