Pyro Gauge Install

Ok, where is the best place to drill and tap the hole for the sensor??? Also, someone said it is best to drill while the truck was running. Said it helps keep metal chips out. I found that a little sketchy and am planning on drilling, tapping then using a small magnet to remove shavings... Any tips? Im also installing coolant temp, oil temp, boost, and fuel pressure. If you guys have any advice or tips id appreciate it!

Also are there any write ups on these gauge installs?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Im really just kind of confused on a few things. Where do i need to run my oil temp and my coolant temp??? I heard pulling the plug out of the block on the drives side but just making sure thats correct for coolant but no idea on the oil. Also on the Pyro If im using a 1/8'' NPT Tap do i need to use a Q or an R Drill bit?? The drill bit package says use a Q but im also hearing R?? Also is there any way i can use a 21/64ths drill bit? Its almost an exact match to the Q bit. Just want to make sure im putting these gauges in the correct spots. Mdub...... HELP haha

No don't drill it.while truck is running just start small and work your way up to size and then you can tap it but cover your tap with grease so it catches all the metal shavings and then use a small magnet to get anything else. The best spot to put it is on the rear of the drive side manafold. The best spot for oil temp is to get a metal oil cap and put it in there. And on the coolant temp I got mine in my coolant filter but you can mount it on the driver side of the block on the block drain but you need a adaptor and I can't rember what the size of it is.

Re: Pyro Gauge Install

I just put a egt prob in my 12v, drilled a 1/4 hole while it was idleing, (ware saftey glasses) then went to the 21/64, then tapped it. It blew all the chips out perfect.

Posted from my mobile phone while not driving....

so the 21/64 bit does work...... Also anyone know where i can purchase the drain plug that i can run my oil temp probe through?? I had a page up you can buy them from but closed it out. Now i cant find the D*** thing! Ive got everything wired up but now im trying to daisy chain the gauges to the dimmer. Ive never taken a dimmer out of one of these truck and dont know if its held in by clips or screws. I dont want to go prying on the thing and break it!!

Dont go into dimmer there is wires under your steering wheel that are conected to dimmer tape into it thats how mine are hooked up works excelent also you can buy magnetic bits or put some grease on your drill bit. I dont think id be drilling out a manifold with 350 degree fumes coming out at idle.

Alright, at the end of yesterday i got all the gauges installed in the pilliar daisy chained to the dimmer swith and all the wire ran to where they need to be. Just waiting on ordering fittings that didnt get sent with the gauges! :argh:

I drilled my manifold without it running and I'd suggest you do the same. I just used a vacuum cleaner to suck the chips out, which were minimal at best. Some suggest using grease on the bit, and I'd also recommend not doing that.

If you do a search for this and use my name, I've posted pics of where I tapped into the manifold for the pyro probe.

Manifold is DONE:c: Everything is run to where it needs to go. I just need to find a couple fittings. I need a fitting to plug my coolant tem into the driverside block where that plug is. Also i need a fitting to hook my fuel pressure up on the fuel regulator. (The fuel filter on the engine) Its got a plug on it and a lot of people run it there. Lastly, i am buying the drain plug for the oil pan that i can run the probe through for oil temp. Everything i can do is done. Once i get all the fittings it should be plug and go!!! Ill post some pics up after i get everything done.

Now to enjoy whats left of my weekend :c:

Nice! Can't wait for the pics!
