Can anyone give me some leads on where to find Reasonable but well built 4in turbo down pipe for my 6.0

Mdub707 05-25-2011 05:07 PM

Just the down pipe or a whole turbo back exhaust?

Ironhauler 05-25-2011 05:21 PM

I would like 4 down and 5 the rest of the way

4 down is a PITA to fit in there, most 4" turbo backs are 3.5" down pipe, you CAN get a 4", but you're not going to notice a difference in any regard. If you really want to, MBRP sells this setup. Just make sure you're getting 4" down pipe, most of the kits out there labeled 4" are truly 3.5" until it's under the truck, then 4" all the way back.

Im running a 4in turbo back from MBRP. Getting the downpipe in there was cake. Getting the stock one out..... completely different story. After i got it out the 4in slid right in.

You specifically ordered a 4"? How much extra did it run you?

The most difficult down pipes to get out are 03's (not sure if maybe your 04 was the same), they have a fiberglass wrap and metal around that, and it's all clamped on, have to get some tin snips and cut the whole way up and peel that crap off before it will even come out, what a PITA. Last one I did took almost 45 min just to get the stock downpipe out.

You're right, reinstall is cake.

Yea mine is an 04 and has the wrap around it. Then once you get that wrap off and start cutting you find out its twice as thick as the rest of the exhaust. I was cutting on that thing for at least 30 min showering my self with metal shavings. But once i fired it up and heard that turbo spool it was worth every minute of it :tu:

I never priced the other so im not quite sure but from the quotes i got sent Mighty Diesel got my order with a quote of $337 shipped for 4in MBRP with a 5in MBRP tip. It sounds amazing when you get on it. On the highway once you get up to speed its not too loud. I drive to indiana a lot from NC and its nice not having my windows rattling the whole way

The standard 4" MBRP systems come with a 3.5" downpipe btw. If it went it real easy, and you didn't have to keep adjusting it from hitting the firewall, chances are it's the 3.5" downpipe.

Still a nice setup, you'd never notice the difference anyways.

Those downpipe wraps are a PITA aren't they?

Ruger5901 05-30-2011 01:03 PM

yea, like you said the best way to do it is cut the clamps and tear it all off, gives you more room to pull it out and a hell of a lot easier to cut
