Yea I have heard of people using mean green and restor radaror flush. You should think of replacing all your radiator hoses my buddy is a master Powerstroke mechanic and he says if you don't that the hoses will break down and fail due to the oil. But I don't know.
we have chemicals at the dealership that flush everything out, flush everything first and then replace the hoses. I assume you popped an oil cooler. |
I used muriatic acid, available at any pool store or home depot. I used 50% mixture. Cascade is safer and easier, just do it 2 or 3 times, use atleast 1/2 a big bottle at a time.

the other thing ive done, is put concentrated easy off (yes the oven cleaner) in with distilled water. IF the sludge isnt breaking down and isnt going away, you probably have bigger issues. Make sure the degas bottle and cap get replaced as well, i replace both either due to popped oil cooler or bad head gaskets causing fuel in coolant or bad injector cups causing fuel in the coolant.

Use Shout the laundry detergent be sure the eng reaches operating temp drain while hot rinse and repeat this should remove all the sludge

I am getting ready to flush my radiator as well how much coolant do I need to refill it 04 6.0

Remove the radiator and take it to a radiator shop and have it boiled clean, or replace it. Replace all rubber hoses. Backflush everything, oil cooler, heater core, radiator, remove degas bottle and clean. Ford recommends simple green flush, I've heard cascade dish soap works well too.
Don't cut corners now or you will be fighting the oil contamination forever. Consider the BPD remote oil cooler to fix the issue once and for all. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- After I bought mine, while I was having egr delete, I found that the previous owner cut corners and left oil soaked hoses on the truck after oil cooler rupture. I checked oaisis and found that Ford replaced oil cooler and intercooler as a result of the rupture. I had a new oil cooler done with the egr delete, added a coolant filter, and replaced all the hoses and flushed the devil out of it. 18,000 miles later my oil cooler is plugged again. BPD Oil cooler is the answer if you can afford it. Stock oil cooler is the answer if you can afford to do it over and over. Good luck, Herman |
i have always used dawn dish soap. flush out very well several times and deffinately replace the hoses a few flushes later.

ok so my truck doesnt have any heating problems yet. its a 94 6.5L turbo diesel with 227k. but i dont want it to start having these issues. so i plan on doing one of these flushes, ill probably be replacing the radiator and the major rubber hoses aswell. while i have these off and im already working on it, i will be replacing the stock fan that is on it with a 21" 9 blade fan with a clutch to match from heath diesel. does anybody know of a good place to buy the radiator, the hoses, and what detergent i should use? and just so were clear, i drain the coolant from the radiator, then fill it with distilled water and some kind of detergent, then run the engine until it reaches its running temp, then run it for a little while longer. then flush while its still hot, then let the engine cool down and refill the radiator with more water and detergent and do it again like 3 times then i replace the radiator and the hoses. then i finish it off with the coolant? also whats the best coolant? iv heard that people like to use coolant that is meant for more heavy duty diesels like excavators and 18 wheelers. any help is appreciated thanks.

Dawn is the best dish soap for graese and oil, wash my hands with it all the time. :c:
