04 6.0 PS takes a min on first take off for turbo to kick in

Hey guys I am new to the site and first time 6.0 owner.
When I first crank my truck after it sits a while (over 4 or 5 hours) it takes a few seconds after first take of befor u hear turbo kick in an can feel the power dif? Any thing wrong with truck or am I just over reacting?

Well any diesel will run better when warmer, as it's going to be getting a more complete burn when it's hot, and likewise the hotter air spools the turbo faster as well. Maybe you have a problem, maybe not, hard to say from here. You getting any smoke out the exhaust? Any other issues? Tried reading for codes? How many miles on the truck? 6.0's are pretty laggy stock as it is, so a cold 6.0 being laggy is no surprise to me. Does it seem ok once it warms up though? You're probably just being paranoid.

Seems like it's fine other than that it will blow a puff out if ur in it when the turbo kicks in. It has 102k on it once the turbo spools the first time it's great after that responds perfect everytime!

I'm just now getting over being parnoid about mine.
What color is the smoke? Mine does the same thing, cold start, small PUFF, turbo spools, clears up, then I'm on my merry way.

Not really sure it's not like pitch black. It's not alot of smoke so hard to say. But mine is the same after the turbo spools first time it's ready to go then! I guess everything is fine must just be me! Also what type oil are u guys running in them I live in panama city Florida so temps never get below 25

You may want to just go ahead and clean your turbo, especially with those miles. It could be starting to stick, and just frees up when you get on it. It certainly wouldn't hurt to do this, and will help you learn a little about your turbo too...

Follow that link and read it, it gives you detailed instructions on how to do it. Pretty easy, even for a first timer.

For oil, I run plain 15w-40 Rotella. I used to run Amsoil, but couldn't justify the added expense. I change every 5k.

I dnt have to get on it I can just ease out and in a few seconds it will Kick in

My only recommendation at this point is to do the cleaning like I posted. Might not hurt to clean your EGR valve too, if you still have one.

Thanks for the info and yes as far as I know I do have te egr valve.

Unless you did a delete, you have it. I think those two things will bring new life into the truck for you, especially if they haven't been done in a while.
