I have a 2005 250, and i have a couple of questions. First what makes a egr cooler go out? We had it done under warrenty at 50,000 also new oil cooler and turbo. What are the benifits of doing the EGR delete. Second, i was pullin my 26' gooseneck today and i blew off the intercooler boot off the turbo. The band clamp actually broke. do the band clamps break? Thanks in advance for any reply.

Doing the EGR delete is actually only part of the problem, it's like putting a band-aid on a stab wound, it's only a temporary fix. The root cause is the oil cooler, just like the EGR cooler it is cooled by engine coolant and only has small fins/passages for the coolant to flow through. Granted, yes the EGR delete has its benefits but it also makes the computer throw codes. If your state does not have emission laws/checks then by all means do the delete. Whichever route you decide on, GET A COOLANT FILTER. I personally went with the EGR and oil cooler package deal from BulletProof, coolant filtration from Sinister and head studs from ARP. Even though the parts are pricey, they sold almost all the 6.0 problems. Studs are the only thing that can't be done in your own garage with personal tools. Here are some links for you.

Ive got the same Question??

I retract my previous statement. I've known people to blow the gaskets by personally installing studs since the heads weren't decked and new gaskets weren't put in. True it can be done without pulling the cab, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you don't have everything checked and it lets go then you will have to pull the cab to have it done anyway.

What does having everything checked have to do with doing it with the cab on or off? I'm still not following...

You can take the heads off the truck with the cab on, bring them to the machine shop just the same as if you had taken the cab off, so this is confusing me.
