Replace Motor in 2003 Excursion
Found out today that I'll need to put a new motor in my 2003 Excursion. (#3 Injector lost it's tip in to the cylinder...)
I have a Bullet Proof EGR Cooler and Oil Cooler on it now so when I swap things out, I want to keep those. I know the EGR cooler is different and the ICP is in a different location on some. I know of an '06 for $3,900 with 30,000 miles on it. Is that a good deal? Can I just swap the '03 intake and exhaust manifolds over to a newer long block? Anything else I need to verify before I get a different motor? By the way... This is a great forum. I'm a new member, but I've been getting excellent information from here for a few years now. |
I doubt it will work, there is a LOT of variances between the years. Not just EGR cooler and ICP location. I don't think much of it is the same at all actually. Usually the dealer will ask for your VIN to make sure you're getting a similar motor. I've been told to always try and keep the same years. With that said, that's a really good price for that motor regardless.

Any one have any experience with these guys?

You can swap the long block in without issue... Just swap/adjust the items from your long block to the new one. The heads and block did not change, just some mounting points and such.

I went down and talked with Ken @ Wild Diesel in Ogden, UT today. He's had some experience with with doing this same thing. Basically he said short block is no problem, but long block is a real pain. It can be done, but not worth the effort.

Pretty much what I have read/heard as well.
