20" wheels....
Have an 07 w/ 20" wheels. Went to price tires and i about s*** myself!!!!!!
Has anyone taken off their 20" and gone back to an 18"?? Would like to put a more aggressive tire on the truck due to my work conditions but the tires for a 20" are thru the roof:ouch: Any suggestions would be appreciated!!! Thanks |
Sure why not? You can do 17", 18" or larger... 17" was the smallest stock size that came on the 05-07's. I have 17"s on mine right now and a set of 18" lariat wheels in the garage.
17" wheels have the cheapest tires. 18" are more and 20" are a lot more.:c: |
Thanks Mdub!!
Unbelievable what they want foe rubber now!!! Only getting worse w/ this crude going thru the roof but, i really think i might go that way.. Atleast run one set in winter and one in summer to prolong life |
Shop around for tires. 18 aint all that much better. Im looking at about $400 to $500 per tire with several brands. My last set I got last year in march was the Toyo ATs. Have the 50k mile warranty. So far I have put in 17k miles and Im down to 6/16 tread. So they dont really hold up to the milage. But they were about $300 each.

Best deal i have found on any rubber is Tire Rack in South Bend. Huge selection and by the time i get anything shipped to me it ends up around 30 cheeper than the locals but, i still need to mount and balance so, by the time i get done w/ all that it ends up around same price as locals

I'll keep my 20's, the look much better. Just pack your lunch for a few weeks and save some coin
|
Tires are expensive for these rigs no matter how you slice it. I just keep buying used tires on craigslist for a fraction of the cost haha.
|
there is a guy here in Ft Worth using 17.5s and G rated tires for low boy class 8 trailers. Don't know where he got the rims, but the tires should last longer, comprimise the ride and not sure about tread patterns.
|
Yeah I dont see 18" being much better, best bet would be to find a set of 17"ers.
|
Anyone know how big of a tire you can put on a stock truck with 20" wheels? Have on 275/65/20 right now but would like the larger tire look without having to jack everything up
|
The newer Fords will handle a 35" tire without modifications if Im not mistaken, maybe a leveling kit, but possibly not.
|
Yeah it will depend on the backspacing of the wheel. If you're using stock wheels you'll definitely want a leveling kit. F350 just needs the spacers up front, F250 needs spacers up front and F350 rear blocks. I run 315/70/17's on my 250 with the leveling kit and blocks. No rubbing.
A 35x12.5x20 should fit. They're pricey though... |
Check out discount tire direct. They've got pretty good prices on tires!
|
Is 275/65/20 the "stock" size if you're running 20" rims? I'm running 17's now and would like to move up to 20"s. I might change my mind if they're close to $500 per corner though.:td:
|
No they're bigger than stock, around a 34" or 35" I believe
|
All that I know is that I have 37x13.50x20 with a six inch lift and I still had to cut a little of the plastic inner fender away so I wouldn't scare people in parking lots when I would turn. I do have different wheels though too.:jump:

The difference between a 35" tire and a 37" tire isn't just 2" though. It's quite a big step. More like 4". Not sure why tire sizes are so inconsistent compared to the lable on the tire!? Different offset wheels will make a differenc too. I have two buddies that had/have 37's using a 6" lift. One had to trim his inner fenders too, the other did not. Different wheels though. |
i got 18" wheels and the best tire that was aggressive and best priced was the interco m16. i got the 38x13.5x18 for around 320 apeice and with about 15000 on em now u cant tell they have worn at all. really aggressive good traction good wear. only issue is they are a bit noisy and they vibrate some but i would buy them again in a heartbeat
|
What would the price of a similar 20" tire cost? If it's $350 vs $320, I think the looks of the 20's are worth the extra.
I know, I know, I could go check the local shop too... Just might do that while I'm running around today! |
go to Lift Kits, Leveling Kits, and Shock Absorbers - Suspension System Specialists! - Top Gun Customz or call em at 1-877-274-9362 thats where i got mine and they r pretty good about pricing and beating competitors
|
A 20" wheel vs. an 18" wheel isn't much of a price difference, it's the tires that have the huge difference.

Was stock on my ride...
They're 34"tall and run around 300.00 per depending on make of course.. Mdub!!! Checked on my current tire size (275/65/20) ran 300.00per (goodyear wrangler ATS) or a set of 35x12.5x20 for 348.00 per (BFG's)!! Surprisingly not a large gap between the two:rocking: Only problem is I have roughly a 1" headroom to get into my garage now so if i placed a leveling kit on the front to fit the 35's then that would keep me out of the garage:dang: At this point i'm on the fence... If i can't get into the garage then i maight as well lift the truck:humm: Had a guy this morn at a speed shop offer me a 6"lift with all components for 800.00... Sounds like a decent deal but i guess im hesitant to pull the trigger |
