Programmer Decision

Have a 2007 f-250 super duty 6.0. I was wondering what everyone thought.. to go with the Edge Insight CS juice with attitude or the CTS livewire? Also, how much hp can I add before I need to purchase a different fuel delivery system like the airdog?

crzycummins 02-26-2011 09:28 PM

I would suggest going with sct for a programmer. Lots of choices and tunes all the way up past 200hp. You can add quite a bit bf you need more fuel but you will more than likely run into other issues before fuel. Blown head gaskets, egr cooler problems...

DieselPower84 02-27-2011 09:55 AM

Oh ok. Well as far as the head gaskets go and the EGR cooler I do have ARP studs, black onyx head gaskets, and the Sinister Mfg. EGR delete kit. So hopefully I'll be okay with that stuff. Thank you for your info.:rocking:

I have the EDGE Evolution. I like it alot and it has bunch of parameters to monitor without having to buy gauges. The tunes also adjust your tranny. The tnues that allow you to change "on the fly" do not adjust the tranny and are said to eventually cause damage. Alot of people suggest the SCT as well.

DieselPower84 02-27-2011 10:26 AM

Do you have to buy guages with the SCT? I did read it monitors some but it doesn't say anything about all the others like the Edge does.

Mdub707 02-27-2011 02:02 PM

You can get just an SCT programmer or step up to something like the livewire, which is also a monitor, and they also have the SCT TSX which is touch screen extreme. I'd recommend getting it from one of the more well known tuners too, as they will include tunes for free. Keep reading and searching for it, the info is here.

Oh ok. Thank you!

Also mdub707, it is not related to this topic at all, but I saw your picture and was wondering how wide and tall your stacks were? They look very good how you have them!:tu:

Mdub707 02-28-2011 07:28 AM

6" mitres from MBRP. I believe they're 36" tall. I'm going to be cutting them down another couple inches, I want them flush with the cab or 1" under or so.

DieselPower84 03-01-2011 07:49 AM

Oh ok. They look good on your truck, but yea going flush with the cab would be perfect.:tu:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Okay, so I read more information and it seems some people suggest using the separate guages rather than trusting the OBD ones on the programmer. Is there a reason behind this? Also, does the SCT livewire let you monitor all the parameters that the Edge would?:humm:

I suggest this to my buddies because adding an OBD port reader is just redundant, it's only copying what the stock stuff sees IMO. If something went haywire there, you'd be getting funny readings. Its just a thought, doesn't mean it's going to happen. I just prefer stand-alone gauges.

Not sure on the livewire vs Edge, but I'd imagine they're pretty comparable.

DieselPower84 03-01-2011 10:23 AM

Yea true, that does make sense. Never really thought of it that way. Thank you!!

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

So would autometer be the best guages or is there other ones out there that are comparable for cheaper?

Mdub707 03-01-2011 10:30 AM

Autometer makes great gauges, and has a HUGE selection of styles to choose from. I have Dipricol Optix, which are no longer around... and started gettin ISSPRO EV2's now, which are really nice as well.

Where in PA are you from? You can contact the guys at upstatedieselperformance, they're sponsors on here, that's who I get all of this stuff through, Jim and Chad have been a pleasure to work with and give me great deals on everything! :c:

DieselPower84 03-02-2011 09:16 AM

I'm near Allentown, PA. I'll take a look at those guages as well. Thanks!

Ok, I found a guy selling an SCT X3 with custom tunes from innovative. He has an 2005, would these tunes work for my 2007.
"Unlocked SCT X3- Innovative tunes + Xtreme tune. For strategy-
VXCF9N4. HEX*
TQCI1NA. HEX"
What does strategy and the numbers mean? Sorry, fairly new to diesel.:humm:

Mdub707 05-10-2011 03:17 PM

The VXCF9N4 is the strategy the tunes were wrote for. You would need to go to Ford, or borrow a buddys SCT to read the strategy. The strategy is basically the "flash" Ford put's on your truck specifically.

If your strategies don't match (which is a very good possibility) then those tunes don't really do you too much good. The TQC bla bla part doesn't mean much to the tuners, they never ask for it.

If the price is good, get it anyways, you can get custom tunes for YOUR strategy pretty cheap anyways. I just got some tunes from Doug @ GoGo for a pretty good price. It was like $100 for 4 tunes. I know others sell them from $25-$80 depending on where you go, per tune.

DieselPower84 05-10-2011 03:23 PM

Ok. Will the canned tunes still work for mine then and just not the custom tunes? I have the diablosport predator right now, on that it says mine is VXCF4HBHEX? I'm guessing the same ones will not work then? Also, I offered him 300.00 for it, but that was with all of the tunes working.

The X3 doesn't have canned tunes, the X2 and X3 only hold 3 custom tunes, nothing else. They actually come empty when you buy them new.

Your strategies are different so you would need new tunes. Just explain that and see what he says. Still not a terrible deal, you can get 4 good tunes from Doug for around $100 or so, or at least that's what he charged me. So for $400 you can have your X-cal 3 and 4 custom tunes for your truck.

The Diablosport predator aka the "pukinator" can always be sold off to some unsuspecting victim on ebay or craigslist too to recoup costs...

DieselPower84 05-11-2011 07:59 AM

Oh ic. So that is the difference between the X3 and the SF3. I think I would rather go with the SF3 then I have pre-loaded tunes and custom tunes to run. Thank you!

Mdub707 05-11-2011 10:21 AM

Correct.

I wouldn't turn down a good X-cal if you get a deal on one. It kind of defeats the purpose of getting an SCT if you don't get custom tunes... and once you have them, there will be no need for the canned stuff.

I think I saw an SCT in the electronics section on PSN for $200 brotha... might want to check that out. When the server comes back up. :c:
