Exhaust Headers
I read that the rear cyliders get hotter than the others reslting in exhaust valves burning. The cause is due to the exhaust manifolds flow the hot exhaust from the other three cylinders by the rear cyliders (4&8?).
Can you run headers to pull the heat away from the heads to better even out the exhaust heat? |
Most people coat them or wrap them to keep heat in, helps spool turbo faster. The aftermarket headers offered for the 6.0 are for better flow to accomplish the same thing. I'm pretty sure no one has noticed a difference, other than a slight difference in sound. Not really any room in there to move them away from the heads anymore either.
A lot of 6.4 guys are actually swapping to 6.0 manifolds now if that tells you anything. |
Couldnt you port and polish the manifolds to help the flow better? That should help everything flow smoother
|
I would not be so interested in a performance gain as much as I want to keep the heads cool to avoid burning the exhaust valves on the rear cyliders (4 and 8)
The header tubes do not need to be bigger diameter (slow spool time) per-say just route the exhaust away from the heads better. |
Which porting and polishing would do by smoothing out the casting causing less resistance for flow IMO

Ok I guess I should have asked this question first,
How many valves have you currently burnt up. If your answer is 1 or more, then you probably have other problems. This is not an issue I ever hear/see/read about. The higher the heat, the faster the motor will expel it, which is why you see so many heat wrapped. This also keeps it from radiating under the hood. Water/meth is far cheaper than a set of headers, and will probably work better. Doug @ GoGo offers an high performance intake manifold that is a great EGT reducer as well. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also 4 is not a rear cylinder. 7 and 8 are rear. One side is even numbers, one is odd, counts front to back. |
there are headers made for the 6.0

Yep... Pretty sure everyone in this thread knew that already.:c: |
Where can you buy them?
