Truck overheating
 

2004 f350 dually stock with egr delete is having a problem here in san antonio tx, this past week its been bout an avg about 33-40 degrees outside, i work about 25 miles from the house, and its a straight highway drive, i drive 70 mph all the way, when i get to about 20 miles down the high way my trucks fan kicks in as if it is overheating, so yesterday i had the day off,so i took the same drive, but went past the 25 mile mark and at about 40 mile mark the needle for the temperature started raising up, i pulled into the gas station and let it cool off till i turned back around, same story for on the way back home,it heated up, also the heater doesnt get hott, it blows out cold air always, if someone could give me advice on wat to look for or good fix let me kno, i just dnt wanna hear blown head gaskets again, but it is wat it is, thanks Mike

If you have the cooler deleted completely, then unfortunately it is probably head gaskets. Check your coolant level, I'll bet it's low. It's the only time my fan kicks on ever.

Do you know if the oil cooler was ever rebuilt/replaced? That's what usually leads to blown EGR coolers and headgaskets.

yea man i got the full delete from sinister, and i went ahead and repleact HPOP and everything the right way, which was about year and half ago, its been ugly out but im gonna go check it right now, and ill let u kno, but why wouldnt the heater work?

My heater never works when the coolant gets that low.... It's start with not working at idle, and the fan will be kicking on. Then as it gets lower on coolant it will eventually not put any heat out. I'm not an HVAC expert, but low coolant = little or no heat.

I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago. I had a coolant leak on the passenger side that i thought was a head gasket. I looked all over the place just to make sure it wasnt something else leaking the coolant, it was my heater control valve leaking, a 23 dollar fix. Look carefully all over and if u dont find anything have the cooling system pressure checked.

thanks, my buddies truck did the same thing and it was his waterpump? but ok ill check it out wheres the heater control valve??

I dont no if on 03's n 04's if the valves in the location of mine, but mines on the passenger side about 8 inches from the turbo. Its got a coolant line going in the front n one out the back its close to the firewall u cant miss it.
