You can always go to an Advance Auto or similar parts store, almost all of them will read codes for free for you. Once you have the code, post back here and we can help you out.

If not, you might try signing up on the larger powerstroke sites (powerstroke.org) and (powerstrokenation.com) and see if someone is local to you and can help you out with a scanner.

You can get basic code readers almost anywhere, some of the cheap ones suck and wont help you much though.

Well now the turbo has a bad bark to it. it still builds boost fine, but when you let off the throtle it barks bad.

If your in California most autoparts stores will carry the scanner. But they will not or cannot scan the truck for you. Its some stupid Smog regulation thing tht prevents them from doing it. So have to go to local dealer or an autoshop and pay for scan. Or the best bet is find a friend or a freind of a freind who will read the codes for you.
As far as I kow I have tried Napa/ Autozone/ Gregin/ Pepboys and no one will scan. Used to be Autozone would scan for free.

Wow, that sucks!

That may just be extra boost backing out the intake. If you give it throttle and back off real quick the power hast to go someware so it goes back out the intake mine does it all the time in traffic. If that is what your truck is doing

Mdub707 01-12-2011 07:40 AM

Yeah it's called turbo fart. There is no blow off valve or wastegate on these, so this is how they expel built up boost when you let off the skinny pedal, just goes back out the intake. It was designed to do that.

milos 01-12-2011 05:23 PM

The truck always did it , but now its real bad. the cummins doesnt do it at all.

Mdub707 01-12-2011 05:40 PM

Because the cummins is a different motor and doesn't work like that...

If you think there is a legitimate problem the only way to find out is get the turbo off of it and inspect it. Is it still boosting normal? Any smoke?

milos 01-12-2011 07:48 PM

It still builds boost, but its real lazy.

doda 01-15-2011 06:27 AM

Clean the EGR valve. When you said it was getting lazy, that tells me the it's time for a cleaning. When one sticks open the truck will just respond real slow.
