im getting a custom ts 6 position and you can tune it for anything you need they are pretty reasonable on price also

Jagsdiesel 10-24-2010 09:03 PM

I'd do a SCT so you can do some trans programing. You won't be disapointed.

Captain Call 10-24-2010 09:17 PM

Might think about studs too.

broncbuster 10-24-2010 09:39 PM

what about the edge stuff. and i dont really know anything about the chips and stuff so what is the ts 6 position. and i cant find a dealer for the sct any where near me how hard are they to install

Hawkeyediesel 10-24-2010 09:43 PM

I've been very happy with the SCT with custom tunes by Innovative Diesel. Fuel mileage when towing my 8k 30ft camper has increased from 7.5mpg stock to 9mpg or better with the tuner. Still not great, but better. The power now is significantly better. I felt the truck struggled in hilly terrain when towing the camper. Now it walks up and down the hills like they barely even there!!:jump:

TS 6 pos is for 7.3's, it's useless on a 6.0. You want a programmer. No "chips" for 6.0's. SCT is the best way to go hands down. Do some searching you will see. I'd suggest custom tunes from Eric @ Innovative Diesel. Get a good towing tune. You don't want to tow on hot tunes. His towing tunes are about 50-70 hp on top of stock, and the trans shifting is AWESOME. It's worth it for the transmission settings alone.

Call Eric up @ ID and he will help you out. The hardest thing to learn at first is getting the tunes via email, and getting them onto your programmer. Then it's just a matter of plugging it in, uploading the tune, unplugging it and away you go.

Edge is crap.

gsxr10001 10-25-2010 09:09 AM

I just got my SCT with custome tunes from Eric at IDP. All I can say is WOW!! I would highly recommend going with the SCT with Eric's tunes. It feels like he added another turbo to my truck and the tranny shifts are spot on.

broncbuster 10-25-2010 09:14 PM

what do the sct programers run price wise i was looking at them on the web page and they dont have prices and dont really tell ya much about them power and torque wise. and do they have a moniter so i could watch my temps and what not

gsxr10001 10-25-2010 09:24 PM

SCT X3- Innovative Diesel Custom Tuned

Check this tuner out. This will be how you feel the first time you drive it with Eric's xtreme tune if you add it:scare2: I would just go with an Edge Insigt to monitor your other paramaters. You can get them from Innovative or just check on ebay. They are going for about $230 the last time I saw them.

broncbuster 10-25-2010 09:58 PM

ok so if i buy that sct x3 does it come with the economy mode the tow haul mode and the extrem. and when i wana switch the program i had on the truck at that time is it hard to switch

gsxr10001 10-25-2010 10:22 PM

You can get those 3 or just call Eric and let him know what you want and he will send the 3 that best fits what you want. I do hihgly recommend at least the Xtreme for 1 of them. You will love it.

It takes about 5 minutes to switch from one tune to the next. Very simple once you get them loaded on the SCT.

broncbuster 10-25-2010 10:56 PM

sounds like the sct x3 is pretty much every thing i want it has the extrem power so i can spank all my buddys with there dodges haha and the tow haul mode with the brakeing system and the econmy so i can not drink to much dzzl haha. one more ? does it save all the stock programing if i ever want to take it complet back to stock

Mdub707 10-26-2010 07:13 AM

yes it saves your stock file. Don't waste your money on the economy tune, it just will not help at all. I have it, it sucks. You will get better mileage out of the extreme tunes actually. The hotter tunes are more efficient, provided you can keep your foot out of it.

You can get the SCT livewire, which is similar to the edge insight, it will be a tuner/gauges all in one. I still prefer the X-cal3 and stand alone gauges myself.

Call Innovative up, they will hook you up and figure out what you need/want. They offer several tunes. I have their aggressive tow (for towing up to the GVWR of the truck), economy (waste of money), extreme street, extreme race. The extreme upgrades are $80 extra. Their Xcal3 runs about $425 with three free tunes, unless you want an extreme tune, then it's $500ish.

Also 03/04 trucks take about 5 min to upload a new tune to the truck, 05+ trucks are just under 2 min for reference.

Hawkeyediesel 10-26-2010 07:24 PM

If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have wasted the extra money on the Livewire. I currently use a Scanguage II to monitor such items and coolant temp, oil temp, tranny temp and then the fourth gauge is what ever I'm in the mood for.

I bought the Livewire because I thought I could read more information with it and I would use the Scanguage II in something else. The screen on the Livewire is hard to read because it seems to catch a lot of reflections from all different angles. The sun can make it very hard to read. It doesn't read as many PIDs (unless you use a laptop) The thing is big and bulkly too. So, I still use the Scangauge II, leave the Livewire in the console so that I can change programs while I am out and about if I need to.

I would get the Xcal3 and then decide what you want to do for the others (stand alone gauges, Scangauge II $150, or Insight for $200 something). I made my own mount for the Scangauge II that goes under my review mirror. I have a Glowshift fuel pressure gauge & a Glowshift EGT gauge. I love my set-up and wouldn't change a thing!

Mdub707 10-27-2010 07:15 AM

The only reason I say I prefer the stand-alone gauges is because using gauges like the insight and the livewire, you're still only reading whatever the truck is already reading. It just seems redundant. At least with stand-alones you have two separate systems. I've heard the readings coming from the OBD port can be off too, especially the transmission temp. Not sure how true it is, but if something goes haywire with the truck's readings, then you just get a copy of that with the OBD readers. Just my thoughts on the subject.

broncbuster 10-27-2010 08:39 PM

i talked to some desiel shops hear in oregon and they tell me that the edge is my best bet cuz it all in one the power the stock levels to levels and the monitor. is the edge going to be a bad for my rig if i go that route. no matter what way i go the programer goign to be on a low setting 99 percent the time i aint trying to blow coils and race around

06HarleyDavidson 10-27-2010 10:22 PM

I have an edge platinum juice with attitude for sale.

y u selling it. i have read pages and pages of sct stuff i wana learn more about the edge products. what did u not like about it

Mdub707 10-28-2010 08:25 AM

90% of the people on these boards who have had Edge's, have sold them for SCT's. The information is here, you can buy whatever you want though.

The Edge does not tune your transmission. It's not even a true programmer, it just sends false signals to the PCM to trick it into adding more fuel and timing. The timing from some of the generic tuners is absurd, and it raises cylinder pressures tremendously. I've seen pictures of it, you can tell a truck that has had a generic programmer on because the star pattern on the pistons is way outside of the bowl (causes huge cylinder pressures.) A good custom tune with an SCT will have all of that fuel pattern in the bowl where it should be. :c:

haha, sorry bud. Ebay or cragistlist is your friend. powerstroke.org is also a good place to buy/sell stuff. There's enough dumb kids on there who don't bother reading anything that someone will buy it.:c:
